On December 2, in Can Tho City, the Vietnam Logistics Forum 2023 took place with the theme “Logistics and Digital Transformation in the Mekong Delta”. Attending the forum was comrade Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission.
Speaking at the forum, Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh said that Vietnam's logistics industry has had strong development in recent times, making important contributions to economic growth and job creation.
Enterprises in the logistics industry are increasing in number and expanding in scale. By the end of 2021, there were nearly 35,000 enterprises with a total of more than 563,300 employees. FDI attraction in the logistics sector has increased sharply, with 365 projects in the 2015-2019 period and 203 projects in the 2020-2022 period.
However, according to calculations by the Vietnam Logistics Services Association, Vietnam's logistics costs average 16.8%-17% of GDP, much higher than the world average of 10.6%. Logistics infrastructure is still limited, lacking synchronization and connectivity, port planning is still inadequate, there are no major ports, large regional and international logistics centers...
Comrade Tran Tuan Anh requested relevant units to research and develop a topic to deeply assess the current situation, conditions and orientations for developing effective and sustainable logistics activities in the new context to submit to the Politburo and the Secretariat for timely consideration and direction, and to remove difficulties and obstacles.
Thereby, promoting stronger development of the logistics sector in general and logistics for the Mekong Delta region in particular, associated with improving the competitiveness and economic efficiency of the agricultural value chain in the region.
