On the night of January 3, 2026, Mr. H.H.N., 70 years old, residing in Chua Lay village, Van Nham commune, experienced symptoms of persistent cough, chest pain, right-sided rib pain, and shortness of breath. His family took him to the Huu Lung Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment. After examination, tests, and imaging, doctors determined he had pleural tuberculosis with pleural effusion and quickly transferred him to Lang Son Lung Hospital for further specialized treatment. Thanks to early detection and timely treatment, Mr. N.'s health has gradually stabilized, his cough and pain symptoms have significantly decreased, and his eating and daily activities have returned to normal.
"Tuberculosis is completely curable if detected early and treated according to the correct protocol. Proactively seeking medical attention when suspicious symptoms appear not only helps patients get diagnosed and treated early but also contributes to limiting the spread of the disease in the community." Mr. N shared: "Previously, I heard that tuberculosis was very dangerous, so I was quite worried. After receiving specific advice and treatment guidance from the doctors, I felt more at ease. Through this, I understood that if detected early and treated correctly, the disease is completely curable."
Similarly, Ms. LTD (35 years old, residing in Lang Xe village, Loc Binh commune) also experienced similar symptoms. Before the Lunar New Year in 2026, noticing swollen and increasingly large lymph nodes in her armpit despite antibiotic treatment, she didn't take it lightly and immediately sought medical attention. Ms. LTD recounted: "After examination and biopsy at Phu Loc Multi-Specialty Clinic (Dong Kinh ward), the doctors suspected I had lymph node tuberculosis and advised me to go to Lang Son Lung Hospital for further testing. There, I was diagnosed with early-stage lymph node tuberculosis and received treatment and close monitoring. After 8 days of intensive treatment, on March 17, 2026, I recovered, was discharged from the hospital, and returned to my daily work."
Cases like Mr. N. and Ms. D. demonstrate that if detected early and treatment is followed, tuberculosis can be completely controlled and cured. According to information from Lang Son Lung Hospital, in recent years, tuberculosis prevention and control efforts in the province have achieved many positive results. Annually, the province detects and manages the treatment of approximately 700 tuberculosis patients, including 500 patients with bacterial pulmonary tuberculosis. The cure rate reaches about 91%, contributing to limiting the spread of infection in the community.
To achieve these results, the health sector has intensified measures to prevent and control tuberculosis, including focusing on improving the effectiveness of early detection. Health facilities have stepped up screening and detection activities in the community. In 2025 alone, health facilities throughout the province conducted screenings for over 8,600 people with suspected tuberculosis symptoms, detecting 66 cases of tuberculosis and providing timely treatment.
Dr. Nong Trong Hoa, Head of the Examination and Emergency Resuscitation Department at Lang Son Lung Hospital, said: Tuberculosis is completely curable if detected early and treated according to the correct protocol. Proactively seeking medical attention when suspicious symptoms appear not only helps patients get early detection and treatment but also contributes to limiting the spread of the disease in the community.
In the fight against tuberculosis, every citizen is the first line of defense. When suspicious symptoms appear, proactively seeking medical attention and testing at a healthcare facility not only protects one's own health but also helps prevent the spread of the disease in the community. Early detection is the key to gradually eradicating tuberculosis.
