In mid-October, on the construction site of the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway section through Dong Nai (including packages A5-A6-A7), workers, vehicles, and equipment were continuing to race against time on many items.

A bustling atmosphere prevails at both the A6 and A7 contract packages, passing through Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts. Package A5 is basically complete, and contractors are awaiting acceptance testing before handing it over to the investor.

According to our reporter's observations, in package A7, workers are focusing on constructing the access road, the intersection with National Highway 51, and the finishing touches. The toll station is also being installed; the concrete work is complete, and the remaining parts are being finished.

Simultaneously, traffic safety signs, directional signs, and lighting systems have been installed. In addition, road markings and light shields have also been completed.

Mr. Nguyen Thien Dat, the director of package A7, said that the package has been basically completed and is in the final stages of completion. “Workers have finished installing bridge railings, anti-glare panels, road markings, fences, gantries, and signs… The remaining items are expected to be completed by November in time for temporary operation,” Mr. Dat said. The photo shows the interchange between the expressway and National Highway 51.

As for package A6 (A6.1-A6.2-A6.3-A6.4), mainly vehicles, equipment, and workers are still focused on roadbed construction, excavation, and handling the remaining items.

Specifically, for package A6.4, the section from the intersection with the road leading to Phuoc An port extending to the border with Thi Vai bridge (package A7), workers must work in continuous shifts to ensure completion in November.

This section will connect with section A7 (approximately 7km long) extending to National Highway 51, for temporary operation starting in November. Workers are currently reinforcing the roadbed, excavating and filling in some areas, and especially completing the interchange.

Once operational, this approximately 7km stretch of road could help alleviate congestion on a section of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and National Highway 51. Vehicles traveling from Ho Chi Minh City to Ba Ria - Vung Tau could cross the Cat Lai ferry to Nhon Trach, then enter provincial roads in Dong Nai province to reach the interchange leading to the expressway and onto National Highway 51.

Additionally, vehicles traveling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway that want to avoid congestion at the National Highway 51 interchange can turn onto Road 319 via Nhon Trach. They can then continue their journey to the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway to reach the National Highway 51 interchange near the border with Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. This helps avoid traffic jams and reduces travel distance by several kilometers.

Mr. Dang Huu Vi, Director of the Southern Expressway Project Management Board, said that many sections of the route have been completed. In particular, the section from the end of package A6 to the end of package A7, which runs through mangrove forests, has now taken shape.

“Package A7 is basically complete, while package A6.4 is about 75% finished. Therefore, the Project Management Board is urging the contractor to motivate workers to implement shifts and race against time to be able to temporarily open this section of the route in November,” Mr. Vi said.

The Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway is 58km long, passing through Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Long An provinces. The project has a total investment of VND 31,320 billion with 11 construction packages. These include Section 1 (Western section, packages A1-A4), Section 2 (packages J1-J3), and Section 3 (Eastern section, passing through Dong Nai province, packages A5-A7).

Construction on this route began in 2014 and was temporarily halted in 2019 due to policy changes, before restarting in mid-2023. The entire route is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2025. Once operational, it will connect the Southeast and Southwest regions of Vietnam, particularly linking seamlessly with major expressways such as the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong, Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay, and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressways.
