In Malaysia, Ship 20 will participate in activities within the framework of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) such as naval ship displays, parades, and maritime exercises. The Vietnamese warship will then travel to Indonesia to participate in the 4th Komodo Multilateral Naval Exercise (MNEK-4), an international naval parade, and the International Maritime Security Conference.

According to the Navy Newspaper , the trip aims to consolidate and strengthen friendly relations and cooperation between the Vietnamese military and navy with the militaries of countries within and outside ASEAN, implementing the guiding principles of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense on international integration and defense diplomacy, and further enhancing coordination capabilities in responding to common challenges in maritime security.

Ship 20 is the second Pohang-class light frigate transferred by South Korea to Vietnam, and it entered service with the Vietnam People's Navy in 2018.

The ship has a full-load displacement of 1,300 tons, a maximum speed of 59 km/h, and a range of 7,000 km. Its armament includes two Oto Melara 76 mm automatic cannons, two Otobreda twin 40 mm cannons, two 324 mm torpedo tubes, and numerous 12.7 mm machine guns.
