"Our current military strategy is purely defensive and we are not seeking to engage in any military operations abroad," Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin told reporters on June 21.
In the context of Ukraine's ultimatum regarding border infrastructure, Khrenin emphasized that Belarus is refraining from escalating the situation, limiting itself to continuously monitoring the unfolding events.
"Belarus has deployed a small force of regular troops along its national borders, with the sole task of detecting potential provocations and protecting the national borders," the head of the Belarusian Ministry of Defense affirmed.
Khrenin also noted that the republic's armed forces are under tight control and are only deployed for planned defensive operations to prevent internal instability.
This information was released by a top Belarusian military official after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky issued another ultimatum to the country on June 21.
Zelensky declared that the Ukrainian army would bomb Belarusian relay stations along the 1,000km border unless President Alexander Lukashenko shut down these signal relay systems and "proved" to Ukraine that Belarus does not support Russia.
