Following the success of the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 chip launched in November 2023, MediaTek is ready to introduce the next generation with powerful upgrades. According to leaked information, the Dimensity 9400 will use TSMC's 3nm N3E process technology and has the model code MT6991.

According to GSMArena, the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will have a 1 + 3 + 4 processing structure, including 1 high-performance Cortex-X5 core, 3 Cortex-X4 cores and 4 Cortex-A720 cores. In addition, the performance of the NPU and GPU of this chip is also significantly improved compared to the previous generation.

Specifically, the imaging capabilities of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 NPU processor can be improved by 20% to 50% faster than the previous generation. In particular, the GPU of this chip is attracting attention when there are rumors that MediaTek has chosen to cooperate with NVIDIA instead of ARM Mali/Immortalis.

However, other sources claim that MediaTek may continue to use the Immortalis G925 GPU, the latest generation from ARM for the upcoming Dimensity 9400 series. If this information is correct, devices using MediaTek's new processor will have 37% improved graphics processing capabilities, 52% enhanced ray tracing capabilities, 36% upgraded AI processing speed, and 30% energy efficiency compared to the Immortalis G720 GPU.

In addition, the Dimensity 9400 is also rumored to completely eliminate power-saving cores, replacing it with ARM's powerful BlackHawk CPU architecture, focusing on single-core and multi-core processing performance. The chip is also said to have a die size of up to 150mm², containing up to 30 billion transistors.

MediaTek is also collaborating with Nvidia to develop automotive chips, expected to launch in early 2025. The combination of MediaTek's CPU + ISP and NVIDIA's GPU is expected to create a breakthrough for the automotive industry in 2027-2028.

With impressive improvements in specifications and performance, in the future, MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will compete directly with leading chip lines such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, Apple A18 Pro, Exynos 2500. However, this information is still just a rumor. In fact, MediaTek has not yet announced official information about the upcoming SoC generation.
