Hanoi Autumn in international rankings

According to this ranking, Hanoi ranked 5th. The magazine described the Vietnamese capital as "having a very unique autumn" compared to other destinations in the region.

Time Out magazine writes: "As a lesser-known city for viewing autumn leaves, Hanoi's Old Quarter is even more colorful when the temperature drops. Strolling around Hoan Kiem Lake is the best way to admire the red and yellow of autumn.

The Mid-Autumn Festival marks the end of the harvest season with traditional music , lion dances... At night, the streets are lit up by lanterns of all shapes and sizes, creating a truly enchanting scene.

According to this magazine, October is the most ideal time for tourists to visit and fully enjoy Hanoi's autumn. In addition to the capital of Vietnam, this list also includes Ibaraki and Kyoto (Japan), Nami Island (South Korea), Alishan National Scenic Area (Taiwan, China), Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Jiuzhaigou Valley National Park (China).

Earlier this year, the capital Hanoi was also honored by the world's leading online travel platform Tripadvisor in the following categories: Top 25 cultural destinations in the world (2nd place), Top 25 destinations in the world (7th place) and the special category of Top 25 most favorite destinations of all time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Tripadvisor (14th place).

It can be seen that this year, Hanoi has emerged as an attractive destination. According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, in the first 3 months of the year alone, the capital welcomed about 7.3 million visitors, an increase of 8.7% over the same period in 2024. Of which, international visitors are estimated at 1.85 million, an increase of 17.4%.

In September alone, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 4.17 million, up 98% over the same period last year. International visitors to Hanoi in September are estimated at 666,700, up 46.8% over the same period. Domestic visitors are estimated at 3.5 million, double the same period last year.

In the first nine months of this year, the total number of tourists to Hanoi is estimated at 26.07 million, up 23.8% over the same period in 2024. International tourists are estimated at 5.5 million, of which about 3.9 million are staying. Domestic tourists are estimated at 20.5 million.

Total revenue from tourists is estimated at VND98,360 billion, up 20.7% over the same period in 2024.

The impressive number of visitors to Hanoi is the result of a series of attractive activities to celebrate the 80th anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) along with the promotion and communication campaign as well as the efforts of the capital's tourism industry.

In May, according to Time Out 's statistics based on global search data, Hanoi was also in the top 15 most popular cities in the world for tourists. Not long ago, the capital was also honored by this magazine in the second place in the list of 10 cities with the best street food in Asia, just behind Penang (Malaysia).

In autumn, Hanoi leaves a mark in the hearts of tourists with unique features that are hard to find anywhere else, such as the scent of milk flowers, green rice flakes from Vong village, and sidewalk coffee in the chilly weather.

On many streets such as Hoang Dieu, Phan Dinh Phung, Thanh Nien, or around Hoan Kiem Lake, rows of trees change color, leaves fall yellow under the feet of passersby, creating a characteristic romantic scene.

Compared to Kyoto (Japan), famous for its ancient temples hidden among brilliant red leaves, or Nami Island (Korea) which is associated with rows of golden trees that appeared in the movie Winter Sonata , Hanoi offers a different experience.

Advantages for Hanoi tourism to break through

Autumn in the capital does not show off majestic scenery but appears through small streets, clear blue lakes, rows of ancient trees turning yellow leaves, blending with the daily life of the people.

It is these everyday beauties that create their own attraction, making visitors feel the slow, romantic rhythm that is difficult to find anywhere else.

Many travel agencies said that every year, autumn leaf viewing tours in Hanoi are always promoted. According to information from the Department of Tourism, the Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the Department of Tourism to focus on building programs and product packages to stimulate domestic tourism.

At the same time, the city also encourages travel and transport businesses to launch promotional packages, discounts, connect inner-city destinations, and improve service quality.

The capital's tourism industry has promoted the organization of many large-scale and professional cultural and tourism events such as the Tourism Gift Festival, the Tourism Ao Dai Festival, the Autumn Festival, the Hanoi Tourism Festival, etc.

In September, the Hanoi 5-Cua O train - The Hanoi Train was put into operation, creating a highlight for tourism in the capital, attracting a large number of people and tourists.

At the linkage level, Hanoi promotes cooperation with regional capitals and key localities that have signed cooperation agreements, while organizing forums to attract international visitors and developing joint products with major provinces and cities across the country.

Promotional activities have also been strongly implemented, from participating in tourism programs in key provinces and cities, responding to the National Tourism Year 2025 in Hue, to activities honoring craft village tourism.

For the international market, Hanoi plans to organize programs to introduce Vietnamese tourism in France, Italy, Switzerland, and participate in major tourism fairs in Singapore, Germany, Japan, etc.

At the same time, the city coordinates with airlines to welcome international delegations to survey and experience tourism products and craft villages in Hanoi.

This year, Hanoi tourism has set a target of welcoming over 30 million visitors. Currently, Hanoi has achieved 86% of the yearly target and is likely to exceed the target in the fourth quarter.

Being continuously honored on international rankings not only helps Hanoi affirm its tourism brand, but also opens up opportunities for the capital to tell its own autumn story.

If Hanoi knows how to exploit its strengths properly, it can completely turn streets covered in yellow leaves, the scent of milk flowers in the breeze, or a cup of sidewalk coffee in the chilly weather... into a "golden mark" that attracts domestic and foreign tourists.
