On the stage of the Army Theatre, Marcin Patrzałek brought an energetic guitar performance.

His percussive fingerstyle arrangements not only captivate audiences musically but also visually, with their percussive movements, pounding rhythms and masterful technique.

Marcin brings the sound and visual experience

At 25, Marcin is known for his unique guitar playing style. He combines fingerstyle (using the fingers to create detailed melody and timbre) with percussive (using the guitar body to create drum sounds).

This way of playing allows Marcin to create drums, bass and melody all at once on a single guitar, making his performances both powerful and rhythmic. He rose to fame after winning "Polish Talent", making a splash on "America's Got Talent" and racking up millions of views on YouTube with his dramatic arrangements.

During the show in Ho Chi Minh City, Marcin alternated between acoustic guitar, electric guitar and classical guitar. Each type of guitar was exploited in its own way, creating different rhythms and colors.

The audience cheered many times when he performed familiar songs such as Smooth Operator , Classical Dragon , Bite Your Nails , Carmen and a cover of Cry Me a River - a song he shared that he has been attached to for 20 years, even though no one in his family is in the arts.

Midway through the show, Marcin engaged the audience directly by demonstrating gallop strumming – a signature technique of creating a fast, powerful rhythm with the right hand. This technique allows the player to create the feeling of a galloping horse with a steady, rapid beat, while adding vitality to the music.

In front of the audience in Ho Chi Minh City, Marcin could not hide his excitement when coming to Vietnam for the first time: "Vietnam really excites me. It's a great feeling."

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online before the performance, Marcin said that although he had just arrived in Ho Chi Minh City before the performance, he quickly explored Vietnamese cuisine with soursop tea, snails, pho and coconut water. These dishes were all completely new experiences for him, of which pho left the strongest impression.

When asked about the possibility of collaborating with Vietnamese artists, Marcin shared that he has not listened to much Vietnamese music, but he really likes indie rock and suggested the possibility of future collaboration if he has the opportunity to return.

For young people pursuing guitar, Marcin believes that technique and personal style are important, but rhythmic foundation cannot be ignored.

Practicing with a metronome - a tool that creates a steady rhythm, helps players maintain an accurate speed and develop a sense of rhythm - is a basic step but determines long-term stability and progress.

For complex arrangements or those incorporating percussion techniques, a metronome helps control the rhythm, creating smoothness and precision in each note.

In addition to the music , Marcin also focuses on the visuals on stage. The taps, hand gestures and body movements are all calculated to create a seamless connection between the audio and the visual.

Thanks to that, each piece of music becomes a complete performance, rich in rhythm, dramatic and lively, allowing the audience to both enjoy and feel the skillful performance technique.

At the end of the show, Marcin thanked the Vietnamese audience. With more than 90 minutes of performance, The Art of Guitar was not only his first show in Ho Chi Minh City, but also an energetic debut of one of the young faces who is contributing to renewing the perspective on contemporary guitar - Photo: BTC
