Expectations for the new term

These days, Mr. Chau Mao-Oanh, residing in Soai Chek hamlet, An Cu commune, regularly follows information related to the election of representatives to the 16th National Assembly and representatives to the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. For him, holding a ballot in his hand is an opportunity to exercise his civic right and choose representatives to voice the concerns of the Khmer people in the locality. “In the previous term, I was very pleased that the elected representatives paid attention to reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the Khmer people to the relevant levels and sectors. Therefore, in this election, I continue to hope to choose capable and dedicated individuals to contribute to improving the lives of the people,” Mr. Oanh expressed.

According to this elderly Khmer farmer, socio -economic life in An Cu commune has undergone many changes in recent years. The extended paved roads across the rice fields, the irrigation system bringing water to the sandy land that previously relied solely on rainwater, and livelihood support programs for the Khmer people have contributed to making the villages and hamlets increasingly more prosperous.

In the communes of U Minh Thuong and Vinh Thuan, from village meetings to conversations in the fields, people frequently mention the country's major national event. Mr. Nguyen Van Su, a voter from Trung Doan hamlet, U Minh Thuong commune, said that in the context of many changes in the country, especially the implementation of the two-tiered local government model, voters increasingly want to elect capable and responsible representatives.

Mr. Su said that he had spent time researching the biographies and action programs of each candidate in his local polling station. Holding the ballot in his hand, he always felt a clear sense of responsibility in choosing worthy individuals who would represent the will and aspirations of the people. "I expect the elected representatives to have innovative thinking and decisive action for the benefit of the people, contributing to building a government that is increasingly closer to and for the people," Mr. Su expressed.

Besides monitoring the information posted at the polling stations, many voters also participated in voter outreach sessions to directly listen to the candidates' action programs and discuss issues of concern to them. Mr. Tran Van Ut, a voter from Kenh 3 hamlet, Vinh Thuan commune, commented that the preparations for this election were carried out seriously, from propaganda to information dissemination, everything was clear and transparent.

Exercising the right to vote

As a respected figure among the Khmer community, Mr. Chau Mao-Oanh regularly promotes and encourages people to comply with the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, while also reminding everyone to vote fully. "In An Cu, the Kinh and Khmer people are always united, working together to improve their lives. On election day, everyone goes to vote together. That day will surely be very joyful," said Mr. Chau Mao-Oanh.

According to him, the Khmer people expect that in the new term, the delegates will continue to focus on proposing policies that support employment, expand livelihood models, and help people increase their income and stabilize their lives. The atmosphere of anticipation for election day also spread throughout religious communities. With a spirit of solidarity, many Hoa Hao Buddhist followers actively sought information and prepared to participate in this great national event.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hau, Head of the Executive Board of the Hoa Hao Buddhist Association in Vinh Thanh Trung commune, said that upon receiving information about the election, the Executive Board disseminated information and encouraged followers to fully fulfill their responsibilities as voters. In each voter outreach meeting, a large number of people attended to listen to the candidates' action programs before casting their votes. “The Hoa Hao Buddhist doctrine has the concept of ‘four kinds of gratitude,’ among which ‘gratitude to the country’ is one of the important obligations that every follower must practice. Therefore, participating in the election is also a way to demonstrate civic responsibility and contribute to building the homeland and the country,” Mr. Nguyen Van Hau said.
