According to information from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Chu Pah district, the total area of wet rice cultivation in the district annually reaches nearly 4,000 hectares (over 1,540 hectares in the winter-spring crop and 2,342 hectares in the summer crop). To improve productivity and quality in cultivation, from 2022 to the present, the district has allocated more than 7.52 billion VND from its budget to implement 4 intensive cultivation projects of new rice varieties in 14 communes and towns. Specifically, the district has supported 228 tons of various rice seeds to more than 42,898 households cultivating an area of 2,280 hectares, mainly the varieties: HN6, DT100, J02, BC15, HG12 and TBR97. During the implementation process, the district provided agricultural supplies (nearly 200 tons of lime powder) and organized nearly 50 training courses and field conferences to support farmers with cultivation techniques.

Mr. Le Duc Thu, a land and agriculture official in Chu Dang Ya commune, said: The commune's annual cultivated area only reaches over 500 hectares compared to 788.57 hectares due to some areas being flooded during the rainy season or having high ground that experiences drought during the dry season. Furthermore, ethnic minority people have a habit of using old 6-month rice varieties for cultivation, resulting in yields of only 4-4.5 tons/ha. However, from 2023 to the present, the district has implemented 3 intensive farming projects supporting people with 26 tons of TBR97 and DT100 rice seeds on nearly 260 hectares. Evaluations show that yields reached 6.5-7 tons/ha. Based on these results, in the winter-spring season, people planted 100% of the area using these two varieties, and this season, the yield reached over 85%.

Accompanying us on a visit to the village's rice fields, which are currently in harvest season, Mr. Dinh Van Loi, Secretary of the Party Branch and Head of Doan Ket village (Chu Dang Ya commune), excitedly shared: "The village has 75 households cultivating more than 10 hectares of single-crop wet rice. For three consecutive years (2023-2025), 100% of households have received support and guidance from the district in planting the new rice varieties TBR97 and DT100. Previously, ethnic minority people used a 6-month rice variety, resulting in very low yields. This variety also had tall stems, making it prone to lodging. Since introducing the TBR97 and DT100 varieties, yields have reached 6.5-7 tons/ha, more than 2 tons/ha higher than the old varieties."

Meanwhile, the people of Wet village (Chu Dang Ya commune) are also excited about adopting the new rice variety that brings high yields. Mr. Ro Cham Hung said: "My family has 1 hectare of rice. Previously, I planted the old rice variety and only achieved 3 tons/ha. Since receiving support from the district with the new DT100 rice variety and technical guidance, the yield has reached about 6 tons/ha. The new rice variety has short, sturdy stems, and the time from sowing to harvesting is about 90-105 days."

Similarly, in Nghia Hung commune, Ms. Le Thi Tinh, a land and agriculture official, said: In the two years (2024-2025), the district has supported nearly 19 tons of HN100 and HG12 rice seeds for 580 households in the commune. “For the HG12 rice seeds supported in 2025, the farmers have just received the seeds; as for the HN100 rice seeds supported in 2024, farmers sowed them and achieved a yield of 6.5 tons/ha, which is 1 ton/ha higher than before following the project's cultivation process,” Ms. Tinh said.

Mr. Le Xuan Dung, Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department of Chu Pah District, affirmed: "Through the practical implementation of the new rice variety model by households, the yield has reached 6-7 tons/ha, 1-1.5 tons/ha higher than areas without the model. Currently, the deployment of new varieties has been widely adopted by farmers in the district, accounting for approximately 75% of the annual cultivated area. We hope that this result will gradually form a habit of using new varieties and applying techniques to cultivation to improve rice yields for people in the area, especially ethnic minority households. This will contribute to ensuring food security and create a foundation for building the Chu Pah district rice brand, aiming towards sustainable agricultural development."
