An Giang – a land of picturesque landscapes, unique cultural heritage, and majestic natural scenery – is accelerating its transformation in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Following this trend, An Giang's tourism industry is strongly applying technology to improve management and tourism promotion efficiency, aiming for sustainable tourism development and spreading the image of An Giang.

Tourists experience virtual reality (VR) technology to observe tourist attractions.

Unlocking potential with modern technology.

Tourism is identified as one of An Giang's key economic sectors. However, to fully exploit its potential, innovation, especially the application of technology, is crucial. In recent years, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism (VH,TT&DL) has implemented many synchronized solutions to create a modern and convenient tourism ecosystem. Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Nguyen Khanh Hiep, shared: “Technology is a supporting tool and a key factor for the breakthrough development of An Giang's tourism. Digitizing data and building smart platforms helps the province's tourism industry manage more effectively, while providing the best experience for tourists. An Giang is focusing on building a "smart" tourism industry that is more accessible and friendly.”

One of the strategic steps is the digitization of tourism data. In 2024, the Provincial People's Committee launched the An Giang Smart Tourism Portal at https://checkinangiang.vn and the An Giang Smart Tourism application, checkinangiang, for Android and iOS mobile devices. The An Giang Smart Tourism Portal and application integrate numerous tourism databases, including: entertainment, cultural, and artistic venues; travel agencies, hotels, and restaurants; shopping centers and sports centers; transportation information related to flight schedules and bus routes; transportation rental locations; and comprehensive administrative procedures. Additionally, it includes sections guiding tourists on contacting healthcare , security, and safety services, and features suggesting itineraries and travel agencies to help tourists choose. On the other hand, the portal and application have the feature to receive feedback from tourists about tourism activities in An Giang.

Elevating the "touch" experience of technology.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Tra (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) shared after her visit to Mount Sam: “Previously, every time I went on a trip, I had to search for information from many different sources. But when I came to An Giang this time, I was surprised to find the province's own application. Just by opening the application, I could find everything from places to eat and visit attractions to information about festivals, which was very convenient, helping me to travel easily and have a smooth trip.”

To enhance interaction and provide unique experiences, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies are gradually being implemented in An Giang. Several key destinations have begun deploying VR models, allowing tourists to "travel" through space and time, exploring the history and culture of historical sites in a vivid and engaging way. Imagine tourists being able to "step into" tourist areas and sites, admire the architecture, and listen to automated explanations using only their smartphones. In addition, the deployment of free Wi-Fi at major tourist destinations is also a commendable effort. This helps tourists easily access information, connect with the world, and encourages them to share images and experiences on social media, creating a strong word-of-mouth marketing effect.

Reaching international heights through digital power.

The application of technology is not limited to supporting tourists; it also contributes to improving the efficiency of state management in tourism. Software systems for managing tourist information and accommodation establishments help authorities accurately track data and the operational status of tourism businesses. This makes data collection and analysis easier, supporting forecasting and tourism development planning. This data is crucial for evaluating the effectiveness of promotional programs and adjusting strategies accordingly.

In the context of globalization, tourism promotion should not be limited to traditional channels but should fully utilize the power of digital technology. An Giang is actively promoting tourism on major social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. Multimedia campaigns featuring high-quality images and videos, along with compelling stories about An Giang's culture and people, are being widely disseminated, reaching users both domestically and internationally.

Collaborating with travel bloggers and KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) to organize and share travel experiences on digital platforms is also an effective approach. The influence of social media celebrities helps An Giang reach a large number of potential tourists naturally and authentically. Furthermore, An Giang aims to participate in international online travel agencies (OTAs). Being present on platforms like Booking.com, Agoda, and Traveloka makes it easier for international tourists to search for, book accommodations, and experience tourism in An Giang.

Lee Won (a South Korean tourist) recently concluded his trip to An Giang and shared: “I learned about An Giang through a TikTok video. The images of the Tra Su Melaleuca Forest, the ancient temples, and the hospitable people of An Giang inspired me to visit. It's even more beautiful in reality than what I saw online. The availability of free Wi-Fi in many places also made it easy for me to share my experience with my friends in South Korea.”
