Digital transformation in education is not simply about technological innovation.

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí06/12/2024

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - "Digital transformation in education is not simply about technological innovation, but about empowering teachers and developing the necessary skills for both educators and learners in a rapidly changing world."

The above is a statement by Professor Dr. Le Anh Vinh, Director of the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences , at the scientific conference "Education in the Digital World," co-organized by the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences on December 6th in Hanoi.

The conference presents outstanding research findings, updates on new trends, and creates a prestigious forum for education administrators, experts, lecturers, and teachers to exchange ideas on the opportunities and challenges of education.

According to Professor Le Anh Vinh, when exploring the potential of education in the digital world , we need to approach it from the perspective that technology is a means, a bridge, not a barrier to education for everyone.

This expert argues that digital transformation in education lies not in mere technological innovation, but in strategies aimed at eliminating digital inequality, enhancing capabilities, empowering teachers, and developing the necessary skills for both educators and learners in a rapidly changing world.

Speaking at the workshop, Ms. Tara O'Connell, Head of Education Programs, UNICEF Vietnam, affirmed the organization's commitment to collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Training in strategic planning and supporting the implementation of digital transformation programs in education, with a focus on supporting digital learning solutions and innovations based on digital technology.

In particular, UNICEF also focuses on improving digital accessibility for disadvantaged communities; developing and promoting the use of child-friendly digital tools for administrators and teachers; and strengthening the digital skills foundation for children and young people.

Emphasizing the importance of "equity, inclusion, and sustainability in the digital transformation of education," Jonathan Wallace Baker, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, stated that UNESCO focuses on integrating technology and AI into education with the criterion of "applying technology and AI in a human-centered manner in education."

A significant highlight of the conference was the research and innovative solutions supporting students with special educational needs, promoting equal learning opportunities.

The solutions not only apply technology but also aim for a quality, developmental, and inclusive education for students with disabilities and students with special educational needs.

Ms. Kim Narae, Deputy Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Vietnam, shared that digital technology plays a crucial role in education, not simply as a learning aid.

"The examples shared here today will be a valuable source of inspiration, helping children and young people with disabilities overcome learning limitations, develop their potential, and make meaningful contributions to society."

"In particular, innovative approaches using artificial intelligence and virtual reality technology are opening new horizons in education for people with disabilities," said Kim Narae.

The explosion of digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) has had a profound impact on all fields, especially education.

Vietnam is actively implementing the national digital transformation program until 2025, with a vision to 2030, identifying education and training as a priority area.

The World Economic Forum (WEF)'s 2023 Job Outlook report indicates that technology and digitalization are both drivers of job creation and sources of significant disruption in the labor market.

Over the next five years, nearly a quarter of global jobs will change, with 69 million new jobs potentially created and 83 million jobs lost.

This poses a major challenge to the global education system, forcing administrators and experts to reshape national education strategies, as well as teaching and learning methods in schools, in order to create a generation of learners ready for the digital future.
