Higher education contributes to preserving the nation's 'spiritual DNA'.

No nation can successfully integrate without losing its identity. So, in this era of integration and self-improvement, what is the role of education, including higher education, in training global citizens who "integrate without being assimilated"?

This morning (December 20th), more than 150 scientists, lecturers, and researchers from Vietnam and abroad gathered at the international scientific conference "Culture and Humanity in the Era of Integration – Striving for Success," organized by Hung Vuong University (Ho Chi Minh City), to discuss the issue of preserving identity, "integration without assimilation" in the current context, and the role of higher education in this matter.

The conference featured 71 scientific papers (37 international and 34 domestic) across three thematic groups: Culture and People, Science and Education, and Economics and Entrepreneurship.

Professor Tran Ngoc Them, advisor to the Rector of Hung Vuong University (Ho Chi Minh City), stated that in the era of integration and self-improvement, culture is the soul of development, the identity, the memory, and the "spiritual genome" of the nation, ensuring that integration is distinctive, profound, and humanistically oriented.

"Culture helps a country integrate without being assimilated, absorbing the best of humanity while still preserving its national identity," affirmed Professor Tran Ngoc Them.

According to Mr. Them, in the context of the country entering the "era of integration and self-improvement," people are not only citizens of a nation, but also "global citizens" with national cultural identity, knowing how to harmonize tradition and modernity, national identity and humanity, and the individual and the collective.

At the conference, seven speakers and guests from five countries and territories, including Vietnam, the Russian Federation, China, South Korea, and Taiwan, presented research aimed at clarifying the model of sustainable development based on cultural and human values.

In this discussion, Professor Vladimir Kolotov (Russian Federation) discussed educational strategies in Vietnamese culture based on the study of Ho Chi Minh's thought. Professor Tran Van Doan (Taiwan) presented his views on the role of aesthetic education in the process of cultural development.

Meanwhile, Professor Yang Jian (China) shared his insights on the innovative approach to developing a Vietnamese Studies program at Yunnan Normal University in the context of digital intelligence. Professor Bae Yang Soo (Korea) discussed the direction of the 2+2 training program between Korea and Vietnam and mutual understanding through cultural exchange among students...

Attending the conference, Associate Professor Dr. Trieu The Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly's Committee on Culture and Education, assessed that in the context of increasingly deep international integration, along with the strong impact of digital transformation, digital economy, digital society, and artificial intelligence, culture and people are facing both great opportunities and unprecedented challenges.

"These transformations not only change the methods of production and social governance, but also directly impact the value systems, moral standards, lifestyles, and cultural identity of each nation and community."

"This reality highlights the urgent need: cultural development must precede, accompany, and guide development, with people at the center, as the subject and goal of all development policies," said Associate Professor Dr. Trieu The Hung.

According to Mr. Hung, higher education needs to promote interdisciplinary research, linking social sciences and humanities with science and technology. Emphasis should be placed on researching the impact of digital transformation on culture, people, and social structures. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen international dialogue and cooperation, and selectively absorb the best of human culture.
