On the afternoon of March 31st, the Nam Dinh Club held a farewell ceremony for midfielder Hendrio, a key player who contributed significantly to the team's V-League championship win in 2023-2024.
The coaching staff and players send their best wishes to the Brazilian player for his future endeavors.
During the 2024-2025 mid-season transfer window, Nam Dinh FC carefully considered whether to retain Hendrio or strengthen their squad with a foreign striker to replace Nguyen Xuan Son, who suffered a long-term injury.
The coaching staff of the Nam Dinh team wanted to build a more direct and fast-paced attacking style of play, so they did not register Hendrio.
After spending some time training with the team, the Brazilian midfielder decided to terminate his contract early and leave to seek new challenges in his career.
Nam Dinh FC's current foreign player roster includes: versatile player Joseph Mpande, center-back Lucas Alves, midfielders Caio and Romulo, and striker Brenner. The foreign player of Vietnamese origin is Kevin Pham Ba.
It is understood that Hendrio will continue training in the near future to find a new club in Vietnamese football. Since the registration deadline for the second half of the 2024-2025 season has passed, the Brazilian midfielder will have to wait until next season to return to playing.
Hendrio is not yet eligible for citizenship.
Beyond the professional aspect, public opinion is also focused on the possibility of Hendrio becoming a Vietnamese citizen and potentially contributing to the national team like his teammate Nguyen Xuan Son (Rafaelson) in the ASEAN Cup 2024.

According to data from Transfermarkt, Hendrio began playing in Vietnam on January 12, 2021. Based on this date, Hendrio needs to stay in Vietnam until January 12, 2026 at the latest to meet the "at least 5 years of residence in Vietnam" requirement for naturalization and playing for the Vietnamese national team.
Specifically, in the FIFA regulations regarding a player's eligibility to play for a national team, one of the mandatory conditions in cases where a player represents more than one association (football federation), or has a new nationality but has not yet played internationally, is as follows:
"In addition to possessing the relevant nationality, a player is only eligible to represent more than one association and play in an international match for one of these associations if they have resided in the territory of the relevant association for at least five years," states FIFA regulations.
Regarding the definition of "time spent in the territory," FIFA regulations state that a player must be present for at least 183 days in a 12-month period to be considered to have "lived in the territory" during that year.
