With sand, progress increases every day.
Since mid-May 2024, with the arrival of sand at the construction site, the construction of the Cao Lanh - An Huu expressway, component project 1, the section passing through Dong Thap province, has been progressing smoothly, with the progress increasing daily.
Construction is underway on component project 1 of the Cao Lãnh - An Hữu expressway, the section passing through Đồng Tháp province.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, the project commander of VNCN Investment - Construction and Engineering Joint Stock Company, the subcontractor responsible for the construction of 9.4km of component project 1, said that to date, the progress of the contract package under the company's responsibility has reached over 35.5%.
On the construction site, the contractor deployed 220 workers along with 45 specialized machines and equipment to carry out the work related to the 9 bridges included in the project. At the same time, workers performed the necessary steps to pre-load the roadbed.
"The contractor has already applied load to over 3.6km of roadbed. Previously, when sand was scarce, the contractor focused on sections with longer load application times. Now that sand is more available, load application is being carried out on a larger scale," Mr. Tuan said.
With sand arriving at the construction site, the Cao Lanh - An Huu expressway, component project 1, the section passing through Dong Thap province, is progressing rapidly.
Regarding the 3.5km section under contract with Thien An Mechanical and Construction Company Limited, Mr. Phan Van Hanh, the project manager, stated that the construction progress has reached over 49% to date.
"The contract handled by our company includes a 19-month loading period. Therefore, once the sand arrives at the construction site, the contractor's work proceeds more smoothly. To date, the contractor has completed the loading of the second layer for over 250 meters," Mr. Hanh added.
There will be enough sand available for construction in October.
According to Mr. Hanh, the contract being undertaken by the company requires a total of 520,000 cubic meters of sand. To date, the contractor has delivered over 160,000 cubic meters of sand to the construction site. From now until the end of the year, the contractor will need an additional 300,000 cubic meters of sand.
The contractor is waiting for more sand to speed up construction of the Cao Lãnh - An Hữu expressway.
Since the beginning of September, the contractor has received approximately 2,000 cubic meters of sand per day at the construction site. However, the actual sand requirement is 3,200 cubic meters per day to ensure construction can proceed.
"Currently, the contractor has deployed 150 workers along with 45 pieces of machinery and equipment. This number, in terms of machinery and equipment alone, has doubled, and the number of workers has tripled compared to before the sand arrived," Mr. Hanh said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, the contractor assigned by Dong Thap province is directly responsible for exploiting and redistributing the sand from the mine to other contractors for the construction of the Cao Lan - An Huu expressway.
In early October, another sand mine was put into operation, meeting the roadbed construction needs for the Cao Lanh - An Huu expressway.
The contract being undertaken by the company requires a total of over 1.7 million cubic meters of sand. To date, the contractor has received 440,000 cubic meters. Currently, the contractor has 8,200 cubic meters of sand per day available for construction, while the actual requirement is 10,000 cubic meters of sand per day.
To ensure timely completion, the contractor needs an additional 800,000 cubic meters of sand between now and the end of the year. With three existing sand mines, Dong Thap province will begin exploiting another sand mine in early October, which will meet the schedule for roadbed reinforcement.
"When the sand mine granted by Dong Thap province is opened for exploitation in early October, in order to speed up the construction progress, the contractor will increase the number of workers and machinery and equipment on the construction site by 20%," Mr. Tuan said.
The Cao Lanh - An Huu Expressway begins at the intersection with the My An - Cao Lanh Expressway in Cao Lanh District, Dong Thap Province. Its end point intersects with the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway in Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province.
Specifically, component project 1, spanning 16km and passing through Dong Thap province, has a total investment of over 3,600 billion VND. Component project 2, 11.4km long, is located in Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces with an investment of over 2,200 billion VND.
The cross-section of the completed phase meets the standards of a four-lane highway. The cross-section of phase 1 of the investment is also four lanes, with a roadbed width of 17m and an operating speed of 80km/h.
