There was such a boatman!

The boatwoman I want to talk about, the one I want to tell everyone here, is Ms. Do Thi Lan Huong, the vice principal of Pom Han Primary School in Lao Cai City.

Thirty years of studying and working together, being friends, colleagues, and then employees of Huong, I can only describe her with a few words: Enthusiastic - Dynamic - Creative and friendly.

Indeed, living and working with her, what everyone must acknowledge from the very first moment is the openness, friendliness, and enthusiasm she brings to everyone... Every day, her work as an educator and administrator consumes her, and she naturally draws everyone along with her, in a voluntary, comfortable, joyful, and effective way. Her ability to attract not only students but everyone, including her colleagues... She is a magical magnet...

Two years of professional training at Nghia Lo Teacher Training College (from 1986 to 1988); four years of practical experience after graduating from teacher training at Hop Thanh Primary School – one of the most remote and disadvantaged schools in Lao Cai's education sector at that time (from 1988 to 1992). From the very beginning of her teaching career, Ms. Huong proved herself. She left an indelible impression on her teachers, friends, colleagues, and especially her students and parents. Her dedication to her profession and her passion for her work were probably nurtured since childhood, and now they have the opportunity to flourish... She threw herself into the school's work, traveling to each household, overcoming language barriers, yet she still managed to attract children who couldn't speak standard Vietnamese fluently. One after another, they followed her to class, clinging to her as if she were a beloved family member, never a stranger... Parents also trusted and loved her, and she became the focal point of the school when Hop Thanh Primary School was still in its early stages.

After four years of inspiring her students and the people of Hop Thanh commune with significant contributions to the development of the education movement in one of the most disadvantaged communes in Lao Cai , in September 1992, Ms. Huong was transferred by her superiors to teach at Pom Han Primary School - a school located in the southern center of the city. It was here that her work environment provided her with the opportunity to showcase and develop her talents. The school leadership entrusted Ms. Huong with the important responsibility of nurturing gifted students in Mathematics and Vietnamese and serving as the head of the Grade 5 subject group.

In her new role and responsibilities, she did not disappoint her colleagues or superiors; she became a solid professional core respected by her colleagues and a valuable asset to the school leadership and the education department in building and developing the teaching staff. Everyone felt comfortable and gained many insights from her enthusiastic, open, and sincere guidance. Each situation she presented in her lessons captivated the students, drawing them into the activities with great enthusiasm. She delivered knowledge in a highly creative, rich, and beneficial way. Her gentle and subtle approach to handling pedagogical situations left us – her colleagues – utterly amazed, transforming the act of observing her lessons into an enjoyable and enriching experience.

Huong worked tirelessly; her dedication and enthusiasm were infectious and inspired us all. She always radiated a cheerful aura that made people feel tireless... Especially in her work nurturing gifted students, she truly deserved the title of "Captain." Under her guidance, generations of students have successively risen to the pinnacle of success, each generation larger and more accomplished than the last. With her inspiring influence, she ignited in them a passion for learning and self-improvement, leading to numerous awards in provincial and national gifted student competitions.

Having been promoted to a leadership position, with the new and heavier responsibilities of a Vice Principal, she maximized her abilities in training the teaching staff, who served as the principal's right-hand woman, steering the school's educational activities steadily forward. She continued to nurture gifted students and consistently achieved new successes. Many of her former students have grown up, many are continuing their studies at university, and countless generations are following in her footsteps... and almost all of them, when asked, shared their feelings: "Ms. Huong is the inspiration for our dreams, enthusiasm, and passion for learning." She is truly a builder who laid a solid foundation for their future.

Not only is Huong excellent at her studies, but she is also a prime example of the "Raising healthy children, teaching them good manners" movement. Both of her children are exemplary students. She is truly one of the outstanding role models in learning and working according to the example of our beloved President Ho Chi Minh.
