Manchester United shares rose by more than 10%.

VnExpressVnExpress13/06/2023

Manchester United shares surged after Qatari media reported that billionaire Jassim Al Thani would become the club's new owner.

As of 10 PM on June 13th, Hanoi time, Manchester United shares on the New York Stock Exchange had risen 10% compared to the previous day. This sharp increase coincided with Qatari media reports that the Glazer family had agreed to sell Man Utd to Al Thani. Each MANU share is currently trading at around $22, the highest level since April 2023.

This isn't the first time Manchester United's stock has surged following news of a potential new owner from Qatar. In the first four months of 2023, MANU's share price also rose by more than 10% on several occasions, at one point exceeding 20%. However, Qatar has submitted a fifth offer, but the Glazer family has yet to agree to sell.

Currently, Manchester United also denies that the acquisition of the club has been completed.

According to French media, the Qatari owners are in discussions with PSG about the possibility of selling Kylian Mbappe to Manchester United. On June 12th, news broke that Mbappe had refused to extend his contract and wanted to leave as a free agent. PSG are unhappy and want to sell the 25-year-old striker in the summer of 2023.

If the Glazer family doesn't sell Man Utd, the chances of the club signing Mbappe are almost non-existent. But if there's a new owner from Qatar, the prospect of the French striker playing at Old Trafford will be much more likely to become a reality. Man Utd already have Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho on the left wing, but Mbappe can also play as a central striker.

Besides the offer from Al Thani, Man Utd also has another bid from British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. The Glazers are still undecided between these two options, but they are primarily negotiating with Ratcliffe.

Al Thani wants the Glazer family to make a decision faster, so that Qatar has more time to prepare for the summer transfer window with Man Utd. The "Red Devils" have yet to sign any new players, although they are monitoring targets such as center-back Kim Min-jae, midfielder Mason Mount, and striker Rasmus Hojlund.
