Man Utd shares rise more than 10%

VnExpressVnExpress14/06/2023

Man Utd shares soared after Qatari media reported that billionaire Jassim Al Thani will become the team's new owner.

As of 10 p.m. on June 13, Hanoi time, MANU shares on the New York Stock Exchange increased by 10% compared to the previous day. This sharp increase came at the same time that Qatari media reported that the Glazers had agreed to sell Man Utd to Mr. Al Thani. Each MANU share is currently trading at around $22, the highest level since April 2023.

It is not the first time Man Utd shares have skyrocketed following news of a potential new owner from Qatar. In the first four months of 2023, MANU also increased by more than 10% several times, sometimes more than 20%. However, Qatar has sent a fifth offer, but the Glazers have not yet agreed to sell.

Currently, Man Utd also denies that the deal to buy the team has been completed.

According to French media, Qatari owners are discussing with PSG about the possibility of selling Kylian Mbappe to Man Utd. On June 12, the media reported that Mbappe did not agree to extend his contract and wanted to leave as a free agent. PSG is not satisfied and wants to sell the 25-year-old striker in the summer of 2023.

If the Glazers don't sell Man Utd, the possibility of the club recruiting Mbappe is almost impossible. But if there is a new owner from Qatar, the prospect of the French striker playing at Old Trafford will become a reality. On the left wing, Man Utd have Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, but Mbappe can also play as a central striker.

In addition to the offer from Al Thani, Man Utd also has another offer from British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe. The Glazers are still hesitating between these two options, but they are mainly negotiating with Ratcliffe.

Mr. Al Thani wants the Glazers to make a decision faster, so that Qatar has more time to prepare for the summer transfer window with Man Utd. The "Red Devils" have not recruited any new players, although they are monitoring targets such as center back Kim Min-jae, midfielder Mason Mount and striker Rasmus Hojlund.
