| Despite being partially widened by local residents, the flood drainage route in Quan Trieu ward remains narrow and in many places dilapidated, making travel difficult during the rainy season. |
In recent years, extreme weather events have become increasingly complex. Each prolonged period of heavy rain puts residents in the area from residential group No. 6 to residential group No. 10, Quan Trieu ward, at serious risk of flooding. Particularly, during the historic flooding caused by the remnants of typhoon No. 11 in 2025, the entire area was submerged in water 2 to 3 meters deep, affecting more than 1,800 households.
In that situation, the road behind the residential area became the only way for residents to transport their belongings, vehicles, and take the elderly and children to safety. It was also a crucial access route for authorities and relief teams to provide assistance to residents in urgent situations.
Mr. Duong Huy Hai, head of residential group No. 7 in Quan Trieu ward, said that during recent major floods, this road was almost the only way for people to escape the flooded area. Therefore, residents earnestly hope that the road will be renovated and paved with concrete to facilitate travel, transport of essential goods, and relief efforts in the event of natural disasters.
Recognizing the importance of the road, local residents have proactively contributed labor and mobilized resources over the years to expand a section of the road. These efforts have somewhat improved travel conditions, especially during the rainy season.
However, due to limited resources, the road remains narrow, and the surface has not been uniformly paved. Many sections become muddy and slippery during heavy rains, hindering the movement of residents as well as rescue and relief vehicles.
Mr. Tran Van Quyet, a resident of Quan Trieu ward, shared that this is the highest point in the area, so whenever flooding occurs, people always concentrate on moving through this road. However, due to the narrow and deteriorated road surface, moving cars, motorbikes, and belongings to higher ground is very difficult. At times, relief teams are also stuck trying to reach the flooded area.
Sharing the same sentiment, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, a local resident, said: "In recent years, floodwaters have risen higher and higher, making travel on this road more difficult. During heavy rains, many people have to rush to move their motorbikes and cars to higher ground at night to avoid damage. According to Ms. Hien, if the road is widened and paved with concrete, it will help people be more proactive in responding to natural disasters."
More than just a route serving daily transportation needs, the "flood drainage road" in Quan Trieu ward holds special significance in disaster prevention and control. When floods occur, it serves as a vital transportation artery for evacuating residents, transporting essential supplies, accessing rescue and relief efforts, and deploying emergency support activities.
For areas prone to flooding like Quan Trieu ward, a comprehensively upgraded and sturdy road not only meets transportation needs but also contributes to minimizing damage to people and property when natural disasters occur. Regarding this issue, the leaders of the Quan Trieu Ward People's Committee affirmed that they will conduct a field survey, research, and consider solutions to address the difficulties.
