Chai Wanbin works in Yuyuhe town, Huidong county, Sichuan (China). His mother, Zhang Yunzhen, 88 years old, weighs about 40 kg and has been paralyzed for four years. Chai, the youngest of four siblings, has undergone two neck surgeries.
Because he was busy, he asked his sister in Mianyang, Sichuan Province, to take care of their mother. During every holiday, whether long or short, he would drive his mother around, always bringing along her wheelchair and a special fabric baby carrier.
"The patterned baby carrier I use to carry my mother was woven by her own hands; she used it to carry her grandchildren," Chai shared. Now that his mother can no longer walk, he uses it to take her exploring different places.
A wheelchair is always brought along, and a baby carrier is used on stretches of road where it's difficult to navigate. In this way, Chai has taken his mother to many beautiful places such as Khung Hai Lake, Shui Yai Street, and Dong Pha Island.
Chai shared that carrying his mother sometimes exhausted him because he had undergone back treatment a few months ago. Knowing how hard her son was working, his 88-year-old mother occasionally asked to sit by the roadside so he could rest.
On May 1st in Huanglongxi, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, a woman happened to film Chai wearing a sun hat and carrying his mother in a cloth carrier, slowly walking through the ancient streets of Huanglongxi. After asking Chai for permission, hoping to "set an example for her children," she posted the video on social media, causing the story to go viral.
After the video was shared, many acquaintances contacted him to inquire. An old friend texted: "It's admirable that you carried your mother on your trip ; we should learn from you." He replied: "Every family does that; I just happened to be filmed."
The man didn't consider his actions a great deed, just a normal responsibility of a son, but he was still touched by the affection and positive comments from the community.
