The Thai royal palace announced on June 12 that Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati had passed away at the age of 47 after a long battle with illness.
The passing of the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn concludes nearly four years of treatment since she unexpectedly fell ill in late 2022.

According to a statement from the Royal Palace, Princess Bajrakitiyabha passed away on the evening of June 11 after her health deteriorated due to multiple complications, including abdominal infection, colitis, low blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, and blood clotting disorders.
Previously, she had fallen into a prolonged coma after collapsing due to a heart attack during a business trip to Nakhon Ratchasima province in December 2022.
Immediately after the incident, the Princess was airlifted to Bangkok for specialized treatment. Since then, her health has been a matter of particular concern to the Thai people, as she is one of the royal family members with a prominent role in the country's public life.
Born in 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha is the daughter of Crown Prince Vajiralongkorn and his first wife, Princess Soamsawali. Widely known by the nickname Princess Pa, she is considered one of the most influential figures in Thailand's contemporary royal family.
After completing her law studies at Cornell University in the United States, earning both a master's and a doctorate, she returned to Thailand and worked at the Attorney General's Office from 2006 to 2011. Her career further expanded into diplomacy when she served as Thailand's Ambassador to Austria, Slovenia, and Slovakia from 2012 to 2014.
Beyond her work in law and diplomacy, Princess Bajrakitiyabha has also devoted herself to social programs. She founded a charity to support female prisoners, particularly pregnant women, during their sentences. These efforts have earned her international recognition.
In 2017, the United Nations Office on Crime and Criminal Justice appointed her as a Goodwill Ambassador for the Rule of Law in Southeast Asia. In 2021, she transferred to the military, rising to the rank of general and serving as Chief of Staff at the Royal Malaysian Security Command.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was one of three children of King Vajiralongkorn who held official titles and were eligible to inherit the throne according to the constitution. The royal palace announced that a royal funeral would be held soon, while the Thai government plans to declare a national mourning period to commemorate the princess who had served the country for many years in various fields.
