Trade Union takes care of Tet 2026:

As the Lunar New Year 2026 approaches, millions of workers and laborers are constantly worried about their income, employment, and expenses amidst a predicted volatile economic environment. In response to this, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) and provincial and city-level VGCLs have proactively implemented plans to ensure a happy Tet holiday, aiming to "ensure that no union member or worker is left without a Tet celebration."

More practical - More widespread

According to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Tet (Lunar New Year) is the time when workers need support the most. Trade unions must be a place workers trust and turn to, accompanying them in even the smallest matters. During this period, the Tet welfare program will be implemented nationwide with the motto: Earlier - Wider - More Practical - More Spreading.

It is expected that the trade union system will distribute 8-10 million Tet gifts, with an average support level of 500,000-1,000,000 VND; organize more than 1,000 free trade union bus trips to take workers back to their hometowns; and implement the "Workers' Market - No Price Increase for Tet" program in more than 40 provinces and cities. Efforts will be made to mobilize businesses and the community to increase support resources, especially in industrial zones with a high concentration of migrant workers.

To create a joyful atmosphere and foster a spirit of unity before the New Year, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has directed all localities to organize the "Tet Reunion - Spring Connection 2026" program on an expanded scale. While this is an annual event, the 2026 program is required to be elevated: Each industrial park must have at least one venue, featuring cultural performances, a raffle, a low-cost fair, and Tet gifts for disadvantaged workers.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor plans to invite businesses to partner with and sponsor the program to increase the number of gifts and scholarships, and also organize many discount booths offering 20-50% off for workers to shop at the end of the year.

Hanoi with a series of support programs

As one of the localities with the largest workforce in the country, the Hanoi City Federation of Labor Unions launched its plan to care for workers during Tet (Lunar New Year) 2026 from the end of the third quarter of 2025. Key activities include: providing direct support to disadvantaged workers; planning to donate 200,000-250,000 Tet gift packages worth 500,000-1,500,000 VND; and providing housing assistance for migrant workers in industrial zones such as Bac Thang Long, Quang Minh, and Phu Nghia.

In 2026, Hanoi will continue to arrange 70-80 trade union buses to transport thousands of workers back to the central and northern provinces; and organize a "Trade Union Tet Market" with discounted prices. In communes with industrial zones and a large number of workers, there will be markets selling discounted Vietnamese goods, supporting workers with prices 20-40% lower than the market price. For workers who cannot return home, the Hanoi Trade Union will organize exchange programs, give gifts, visit their dormitories, provide meals, entrance tickets, and other recreational activities.

Not only Hanoi, but also localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Da Nang, Hai Phong… have announced plans to prepare for Tet early.

According to information from the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, in addition to regular welfare activities, the city organized a program to meet with workers who did not return to their hometowns, invited them to year-end parties, and gave them gifts.

The Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor Unions is focusing on visiting workers who have lost their jobs or had their working hours reduced. The Hai Phong Federation of Labor Unions is prioritizing the welfare of workers in the Dinh Vu - Cat Hai Economic Zone, with plans to provide 70,000-100,000 Tet holiday gift packages.

In parallel with direct support, trade unions in Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong are also strengthening dialogue with business owners to solicit Tet bonuses, transportation support, overtime meal allowances, and improved working conditions at the end of the year; applying digital platforms to review, update support lists, and transfer money directly to accounts, avoiding delayed or duplicate payments. A software system for managing union members will be used to ensure transparency in each gift and each support case.

In the context of a challenging economic environment, the practical and timely attention of the Trade Union will undoubtedly be an important source of moral support, affirming the role of the trade union members in representing, protecting, and caring for workers.
