Multimedia, supported by generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), is a useful tool for preserving and disseminating the cultural and historical heritage of a nation and its people.
The success of the music video "Bac Bling (Bac Ninh)" by singer Hoa Minzy, which has garnered 166 million views on YouTube, prompts much thought about how to promote the cultural and historical beauty of our localities. From being the "homeland of Quan Ho folk music," Bac Ninh is now appearing on the world stage with a newer, more captivating image. Mr. Le Quoc Minh – Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper and President of the Vietnam Journalists Association – wrote on his personal page on April 25, 2025: "Don't think that young people don't care about history. It's just that we haven't yet learned how to tell the story in a way that suits their approach."
And the innovative approach of Nhan Dan Newspaper is worth considering. On April 17, 2025, Nhan Dan Newspaper announced the "I Love Vietnam So Much" project, combining wireless connectivity technology (NFC) and digital data to spread love for the country and promote historical, cultural, and tourist destinations throughout Vietnam. Nhan Dan Newspaper and its technology partner, Phygital Labs, have installed nearly 200 NFC-enabled boards free of charge at famous landmarks in more than 60 provinces and cities to create a unique exploration experience for tourists and support and promote local tourism. With just a touch using an NFC-enabled phone, tourists can access a digital space with many integrated and interesting features.
In particular, on the occasion of the whole country celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Nhan Dan Newspaper has invested in building the website https://thongnhatdatnuoc.nhandan.vn/, a multimedia application providing a wealth of materials about the journey to the "Great Victory of Spring 1975". These official documents, which would otherwise be "dry" if kept in archives, are now re-released in diverse ways, attracting readers and viewers.
The tools and resources are now ready. All that's needed are ideas and projects.
Agencies and organizations, especially at the central level, must be proactive and take the lead in applying technology to preserve and disseminate cultural heritage and historical events. Cooperation with domestic and cross-border social media platforms is necessary to develop projects for the preservation and promotion of Vietnamese culture and history. Units managing cultural and historical sites should also propose to relevant authorities to collaborate with technology partners to implement such projects.
