Around midnight on February 18th, the Hai Duong City authorities received information about a large fire at Hoang Le Company, a manufacturer of cardboard boxes, located in Zone 11, Binh Han Ward, next to National Highway 5, Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province.
Upon receiving the report, the fire department of Hai Duong City Police, and the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of Hai Duong Province mobilized a large number of officers and soldiers along with many fire trucks to the scene to extinguish the fire.
Hours after the fire broke out, the flames were still not under control. The dry weather, combined with the fact that the factory was old, and the goods and materials were highly flammable, caused the fire to spread relentlessly. Along with the continuously erupting flames and towering columns of black smoke, there were also very loud explosions.
Firefighters attempted to approach the blaze from various directions to control it, but faced numerous difficulties. Local water sources and other available natural resources were insufficient to extinguish the fire.
Confirming with VietNamNet reporters, a representative of the Hai Duong authorities said: By the time the authorities received the information, the fire had already become very large. The affected area was approximately 1,000 square meters. Hoang Le Packaging Company is located in a small, old industrial park and near residential areas, so the fire fighting force had to simultaneously extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.
