On the evening of January 14th, the Traffic Police Department (PC08) of the Ho Chi Minh City Police announced that they had coordinated with other forces to pursue and arrest two dangerous robbers.
According to initial information, at 0:50 AM on the same day, the duty officer of the PC08 Department received information via the hotline from a citizen about the robbery of a white and black Vespa motorbike with license plate 69L1 – 176xx in the High-Tech Park in Thu Duc City, along with the phone numbers of two people who were chasing the robbers.
Information indicates that the two robbers were traveling through District 1 and District 4.
Immediately, the duty officer of PC08 reported to the Command Information Center of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, and at the same time notified other units under PC08 to coordinate in arresting the robbers.
Patrol and control forces from various teams under the PC08 Department, such as the Escort Patrol Team, the Ben Thanh Traffic Police Team, the South Saigon Traffic Police Team, and the Anti-Racing Team, immediately moved to coordinate with the Criminal Police Team and Team 363 of the District 4 Police. These forces pursued the two robbers through many streets in Districts 1, 4, 7, and 8.
Upon reaching Ton That Thuyet Street, Ward 18, District 4, the pursuing force apprehended one suspect. The other suspect, the one who directly stole the motorbike, continued to escape.
While being pursued, the suspect acted aggressively, repeatedly forcing vehicles off the road, kicking the police motorcycles, and using his helmet to attack the pursuing officers in an attempt to escape.
Recognizing the suspect's reckless behavior, Captain Nguyen Trong Thanh, an officer of the Patrol and Escort Team, drew his K59 pistol and fired two warning shots into the air to subdue him. Upon pursuing him to Chanh Hung Street, Ward 4, District 8, the traffic police surrounded and apprehended the suspect.
At the police station, the two suspects identified themselves as Thach Den (35 years old, from Tra Vinh) and Le Van Son (39 years old, from Ben Tre). They admitted to the robbery.
The traffic police handed over the two suspects to the District 8 Police to carry out the procedures for transferring them to the Thu Duc City Police for further investigation and handling according to their jurisdiction.
The police also handed over the stolen item, a Vespa scooter, to the victim, Ms. NTP.
Ms. P. stated that while traveling in the High-Tech Park (Thu Duc City), near Phu Huu Bridge, she was suddenly approached by two young men on a motorbike who threatened her and stole her Vespa. After the two suspects fled, Ms. P. asked a passerby for a ride to chase them, and simultaneously called the PC08 hotline for assistance.
Acting swiftly, the traffic police quickly intervened, pursuing and apprehending the two robbers and recovering the vehicle for Ms. P. Upon receiving her vehicle back, Ms. P. was deeply moved and wrote a letter of gratitude to the traffic police for their prompt, active, and effective assistance to the public.
