The People's Committee of Vung Tau ward has just agreed on a plan to connect the Vi Ba road through the Ho May Tourist Area to create a seamless route across Nui Lon mountain, approximately 10 km long. This is considered a breakthrough step to "awaken" the potential of the landscape, tourism, and forest protection in the area, which is considered the "green lung" of the locality.
For many years, the section of road from Km4+00 to Km5+00 has been cut off by gates and fences belonging to the Ho May Tourist Area, preventing continuous access to the mountain road. Locals and tourists wishing to hike, climb the mountain, and enjoy the scenery can only travel in separate sections via Vi Ba Road or Alley 444 Tran Phu. Furthermore, this disruption significantly impacts forest patrol, control, and fire prevention efforts.
According to the agreed plan, two connection points will be opened in the south and north of Ho May Tourist Area. Simultaneously, the existing internal road network within the tourist area will be used for public transport, creating a continuous route from Vi Ba to alley 444 Tran Phu. The Ward People's Committee will also coordinate clearing vegetation, leveling the ground, and laying stones to create a firebreak connecting to the existing route on the mountain. Upon completion, the road will not only facilitate faster firefighting operations but also create a "green route" for walking, trekking, and community tourism.

Authorities are conducting a site visit to prepare for the opening of the road through Nui Lon Mountain.
Nguyen Thi Hong Duyen, a resident of Rach Dua ward and a frequent hiker, said she has been regularly walking on Mount Large for many years but always regrets the interrupted route. "The scenery on Mount Large is beautiful, with many sections offering stunning views of the sea and the city, but you have to turn back when you reach the Ho May area. If the route were fully open, it would be one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Vung Tau," said Ms. Duyen.
Mr. Vo Van Thanh Sang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Vung Tau Ward, said that opening the road not only serves tourism development but also prioritizes forest protection and fire safety. The Nui Lon area covers nearly 600 hectares and contains many famous historical, cultural, and religious sites such as Bach Dinh, Thich Ca Buddha Statue, Bai Dau Church, Chan Khong Zen Monastery, etc.
However, many areas remain difficult to access due to the lack of integrated transportation infrastructure. "After the road network is connected, the ward will develop a plan to effectively exploit cultural, sports, and community tourism activities on Mount Large, aiming to create unique tourism products," Mr. Sang said.
The People's Committee of the ward has now assigned specialized units to supervise the opening of connection points and the implementation of related projects.
