Towards the end of the year, be prepared for fire hazards.

Fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue work in the province is becoming increasingly systematic and well-organized, achieving many positive results and contributing to maintaining political security, social order and safety, and serving the economic, cultural, and social development of the province. However, the fire and explosion situation in the province remains complex and unpredictable, especially towards the end of the year.

Strengthen inspections and ensure safety.

From the beginning of 2025 to the present, 18 fires have occurred in the province (including 8 level I fires, 5 level II fires, 4 level III fires, and 1 level IV fire). According to the analysis of the authorities, there were 3 fires in single-family houses; 1 forest fire; 3 fires in houses combined with production and business activities; 2 fires involving vehicles; and 9 fires in warehouses, production facilities, and other businesses.

Authorities have investigated and clarified the causes of 16 out of 18 fires. Of these, 10 were caused by electrical system or equipment malfunctions; 4 by negligence or carelessness in the use of fire sources; 2 by technical failures; and the causes of 2 are still under investigation.

Firefighting and rescue drill conducted at Co.opmart Tay Ninh.

Lieutenant Colonel Do Chau Thai Duy, Deputy Head of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police, stated: “At the end of the year, the demand for goods increases, leading to greater stockpiling. In addition, due to the impact of climate change, with intense and prolonged hot weather across a wide area, the fire and explosion situation will become more complex and unpredictable. If we do not proactively prevent fires and explosions, the consequences will be very serious.”

To ensure fire safety during the year-end period, the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police is strengthening coordination and promoting the dissemination of knowledge and skills in fire prevention and escape. This includes focusing on in-depth and widespread dissemination of information to target groups in residential areas, houses combining living and production/business activities, karaoke establishments, and accommodation facilities.

Authorities also maintain a state of readiness for firefighting and rescue operations, ensuring absolute safety and resolutely preventing any fires or explosions that could cause serious damage to people and property.

The Co.opmart Tay Ninh's Fire Prevention and Fighting Team inspects the central control panel.

“The coordinating unit at the commune level police will continue to review, develop, and expand fire safety models and movements in residential areas (Fire Safety Neighborhood Groups, Public Firefighting Points, etc.); develop and regularly organize fire fighting and evacuation drills for residential areas, apartment buildings, boarding houses, crowded facilities, and other types of establishments with high fire and explosion risks. In coordination with relevant units, we will strengthen inspections and guidance for households and houses used for both living and business purposes on solutions and skills to ensure safety, such as creating a second emergency escape route, separating parking areas and areas with high fire and explosion risks from living areas and escape routes; and equipping facilities and equipment to promptly handle fire and explosion situations as soon as they arise, minimizing damage and consequences caused by fires and explosions,” Lieutenant Colonel Do Chau Thai Duy further shared.

Responsibility is not just one person's responsibility.

At Co.opmart Tay Ninh, since the beginning of the year, the unit has developed a plan to coordinate and maintain fire safety conditions at the facility. Every Monday morning during the flag-raising ceremony, the supermarket's management reminds and directs all departments and teams to strictly comply with fire safety regulations; and conducts monthly self-education through the facility's public address system.

The supermarket also focuses on organizing, managing, maintaining operations, and regularly strengthening the on-site fire fighting team; organizing training for the on-site fire fighting force to master the features, usage, maintenance, and inspection of the equipment provided.

Disseminating information to small business owners on several issues related to fire prevention and firefighting.

Mr. Nguyen Truong Thoai, Head of the Security Team and Head of the Fire Prevention and Fighting Team at Co.opmart Tay Ninh, said: “The fire prevention and fighting team currently has 28 people, divided into 3 shifts. During the performance of their duties, the force pays attention to checking emergency exits, fire extinguishers, wall-mounted fire cabinets, etc. At the end of the year, we will continue to strengthen fire prevention and fighting inspections, paying attention to checking areas within the supermarket (parking lot, warehouse, etc.), ensuring that emergency exits are clear, and raising awareness to prevent fires and explosions.”

Towards the end of the year, the volume of goods arriving at the market from various locations is relatively large. Fire safety is always a top priority for the market management and vendors. Mr. Duong Ngoc Hai, a vendor selling rice paper and chili salt at Long Hoa Market (Long Hoa Ward), said: “During the course of my business, I have received regular warnings and reminders from the Market Management Board, and each stall has equipped itself with a fire extinguisher. Near Tet (Lunar New Year), we will import more cakes and sweets to sell, and we will try to arrange the goods neatly and keep them away from electrical equipment.”

Mr. Ngo Anh Quyen, the officer in charge of fire prevention and control at the city market (Ward 17, Tan Ninh commune), said: “Fire prevention and control at the market plays a very important role, because it is a place where many people and goods gather, posing a potential risk of fire and explosion. We regularly remind traders not to burn votive paper, to arrange goods neatly, and to keep walkways clear. At the end of the year, when a large amount of goods are brought in, we will pay attention to reminding everyone to be vigilant and ensure safety for themselves and those around them.”

Ms. Ngo Thi Cam Loan, a small business owner selling electrical goods at the city market, shared: “I pay special attention to fire prevention and control in my business area, making sure to turn off electrical equipment when not in use, especially in the afternoon when packing up. At the end of the year, when more goods arrive, I will strictly manage the use of fire sources, heat sources, and electrical systems in my business area, arranging goods scientifically and ensuring safe distances.”

Instructions on how to use a fire extinguisher correctly.

According to Lieutenant Le Van Hieu, an officer of the Firefighting and Rescue Team in Hoa Thanh - Chau Thanh area, the end of the year often poses many potential risks of fire and explosions. The team uses various methods to educate people on basic knowledge and how to use on-site firefighting equipment when an incident occurs.

The forces will focus on inspecting facilities with a high risk of fire and explosion, such as gasoline, oil, and gas stations, markets, religious buildings, factories, and enterprises; further strengthening combat readiness, ensuring the mobilization of forces and equipment to fire incidents and the scene of fires, minimizing damage to people and property.

For agencies and businesses, it is necessary to strengthen propaganda and remind officials and employees to comply with regulations on fire prevention and rescue within the agency or business; strengthen safety inspections in production and business activities; and promptly rectify any shortcomings or deficiencies.

In the event of a fire, quickly alert everyone nearby; cut off the power supply, use initial fire extinguishing equipment (portable fire extinguishers, wall-mounted fire hydrants, etc.), and immediately call the Fire and Rescue Police force at 114 and actively organize firefighting and rescue efforts.

The Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department of the Provincial Police recommends that households regularly inspect electrical equipment, install automatic shut-off devices to prevent overload, short circuits, and overheating of electrical wiring, especially high-power devices. People should not arbitrarily connect or splice electrical wires, and should avoid running wires through thatched roofs, corrugated iron roofs, floor coverings, or hanging them on walls made of flammable materials. Cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles and equipment containing gasoline, oil, liquids, flammable goods, and other items stored indoors must be kept away from cooking stoves and heat sources.
