For five consecutive minutes, Doctor Huy performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to maintain the patient's circulation - Image taken from a video clip.
CCTV footage from a pickleball court in Da Nang shows a man suddenly collapsing at approximately 5:40 PM on April 25th. Those present shouted for help. At this critical moment, a doctor appeared and provided immediate first aid.
For over five minutes, the doctor performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) using external chest compressions to maintain circulation for the patient.
The person appearing in the clip is Dr. Le Quang Huy, from the neurosurgery department of Da Nang Hospital.
Dr. Huy said that while he was preparing to go to the hospital for work, he heard cries for help from the sports field opposite his house and immediately ran over.
"When I arrived, I found a man, about 50 years old, unconscious, cyanotic, breathing weakly, foaming at the mouth, and with a weak pulse."
"Recognizing this as a critical case of cardiac arrest, I immediately cleared the airway, removed mucus and phlegm, and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation with external chest compressions," Dr. Huy recounted.
After more than 5 minutes of resuscitation, the patient gradually regained a heartbeat, a stronger pulse, and began to regain consciousness.
Immediately afterwards, the 115 emergency services received the patient and transferred him to a medical facility for further treatment. Currently, the patient's health is stable and he has been discharged from the hospital to be monitored at home.
On April 26, Mr. Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, stated that this case clearly demonstrates the vital role of initial first aid in situations of sudden cardiac arrest.
"In cardiac arrest emergencies, every minute counts. If the patient is detected early and receives proper cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene, the chances of survival increase significantly."
"This is also why the hospital regularly organizes basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for medical staff, while also aiming to spread essential first aid skills in the community," Mr. Nhan shared.
