As for the social commentary essay, most candidates performed well, scoring around 1.75 points. These candidates identified the main point and possessed the necessary writing skills, but lacked depth in their expression and originality. Relatively few candidates achieved the full 2 ​​points in this section.

Another examiner stated that, among the graded papers, the highest score for the literary analysis section was 4.25/5. The lowest score in this section was 1.25, while the average ranged from 2.75 to 3.75. The examiner noted that although the work " The Picked-Up Wife" is quite familiar, the excerpt in the exam had not been given sufficient attention by students during their studies. Therefore, their analysis was not in-depth; only about 10% of the essays demonstrated a deep understanding of the excerpt's meaning.

During the grading process, judges will award 0.5 points for creativity if the candidate's essay demonstrates knowledge of literary theory; includes comparisons with other works; or shows profound feelings, fluent and original expression, and a unique personality.

According to the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the grading process for the 2023 high school graduation exam was carried out rigorously. The distribution of answer keys and grading guidelines was detailed and ensured the rights of the candidates.

Judges' personal belongings will be sealed; judges are not allowed to use their phones while at the grading site. Answer sheets and grading guidelines may not be taken home.

According to regulations, all exam papers will be graded in two rounds, with exceptional papers receiving the highest possible scores being reported to ensure accuracy. In addition, approximately 10% of the total number of exam papers will undergo a verification grading process to ensure objectivity and fairness for all candidates.
