A variety of playgrounds for children during the summer.

As soon as summer began, the Youth Union of Na Phon commune (Mai Chau district) organized summer activities, incorporating awareness campaigns on preventing accidents, injuries, drowning, violence, and sexual abuse among children in the area. Through these awareness sessions, children gained basic knowledge on how to prevent drowning, enabling them to protect themselves and help their friends in emergencies. This is a practical activity contributing to the prevention of drowning and injuries among children in the commune.

The youth project, initiated by the Na Phon Commune Youth Union (Mai Chau district) with the support of benefactors, has contributed to creating a safe playground for children in the commune.

Lo Van Chuc, Secretary of the Na Phon Commune Youth Union, shared: "To ensure safety and prevent accidents and injuries, especially drowning accidents, the Commune Youth Union coordinates with schools in the area to organize skills training to equip children with basic knowledge to prevent accidents and injuries, especially during the summer."

In recent years, Mai Chau district has witnessed several tragic cases of drowning and injuries among children. The main causes are negligence, carelessness, and a lack of parental supervision; partly due to a lack of safe playgrounds and recreational spaces for children. During the summer, children often herd buffalo, swim in streams, and climb trees... With their innocence, they turn any place into a playground filled with simple joys. However, these locations harbor many dangers. In response to this situation, various levels of government and agencies, especially the Youth Union in communes and towns, have implemented numerous recreational activities to attract young people and limit dangerous games.

Infrastructure is lacking, especially playgrounds for children. Therefore, youth union branches in Mai Chau district have focused on raising awareness among children and residents about the Children's Law, first aid for injuries, and preventing drowning. In addition, in response to the "For Our Beloved Children" volunteer campaign, youth union branches simultaneously organized activities for children in residential areas throughout June. Furthermore, youth union branches at all levels have paid attention to completing playground construction projects for children.

From 2022 to the present, the Youth Union at all levels in the district has implemented and coordinated the implementation of 34 playgrounds for children and teenagers. They have mobilized Youth Union members to contribute thousands of man-days to level cultural centers, schoolyards, and centralized playgrounds, and to renovate 3 playgrounds for children in residential areas... In the first six months of this year, the District Youth Union coordinated the construction and handover of 4 playgrounds in the communes of Dong Tan, Thanh Son, Na Phon, and Chieng Chau.

Mr. Ha Cong Dat, Secretary of the Mai Chau District Youth Union, said: "The District Youth Union has directed grassroots youth unions to organize 'Volunteer Day for Beloved Children' with activities such as fun, entertainment, creative experiences, and skill-building for children, including swimming lessons, organizing weekend playgrounds, and building recreational areas in residential areas."

Although playgrounds haven't yet been able to cover almost all areas, summer activities have created spaces and attracted children to participate in safe and healthy play. This contributes to protecting children from dangers. With that in mind, it is hoped that these projects for children will continue to be expanded, providing children with beneficial and safe playgrounds.
