The "textbook-free classrooms" are bustling with activity.
The start of summer vacation is also the time when many families look for suitable activities for their children to have fun while also having the opportunity to improve their physical fitness, develop their talents, and acquire life skills. Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai from Pho Hien ward said: “My husband and I are both worried about not having much time to supervise our child during the summer. Participating in life skills classes helps our child have a group environment, become more independent, and learn many essential life skills.”
Responding to the increasingly diverse needs of parents and students, summer activities for children in the province are becoming more and more varied. From sports and arts to life skills, STEM, robotics, and programming, each child can find suitable playgrounds to train, experience, and develop themselves.
From the beginning of June, the Provincial Youth Center became bustling as parents registered their children for summer courses. This year, the Center maintains more than 20 classes in music , sports, life skills, and talents at two locations in Pho Hien and Thai Binh wards. Mr. Luong Quang Toan, Deputy Director of the Center, said: “To ensure the classes operate effectively, the unit has fully prepared the facilities and assigned a team of qualified teachers and coaches to help children develop their strengths, confidence, and creativity in a safe and beneficial learning environment.”

Not only public centers, but also many private talent training facilities in the area attract a large number of students. At the Thai Binh Music Center (Thai Binh ward), there are currently more than 100 students, of which about 80% are students from primary to secondary school. Piano and vocal classes are organized in various forms, from general to private tutoring, meeting the needs of each student. The provincial library also implements many reading promotion programs, provides free library cards for children, organizes reading corners, creative experience areas, and many interactive activities for young readers. Nguyen Khanh Linh, from Son Nam ward, shared: “Every week I go to the library a few times to read books, participate in intellectual games, and socialize with many new friends. I find summer at the library very fun and beneficial.”
Bringing summer playgrounds closer to rural children.
Along with talent centers in central areas, this summer, many localities and schools in rural areas are also organizing activities for children right in community centers or school grounds. These nearby playgrounds not only create a safe and healthy environment but also provide children with more opportunities to play, train, and gain experience.

These days, every morning and afternoon, the grounds of Thu Sy Primary School (Tan Hung commune) are bustling with the laughter and chatter of students participating in martial arts and swimming classes. Maintained for many years, this model not only provides a beneficial playground during the summer but has also become a familiar meeting place for local children. Teacher Dao Van Canh, the teacher in charge of the classes, said: “Currently, nearly 100 students participate in the two martial arts and swimming classes. These activities not only help them improve their health, develop discipline and perseverance, but also equip them with self-protection skills, especially safe swimming and drowning prevention.”
Experiencing exciting training sessions with friends, Nguyen Diep Anh, a student at Thu Sy Primary School, happily shared: “Every afternoon I eagerly come to school to practice martial arts with my friends. I feel healthier, more agile, and have learned many useful things.”

The diversity of summer activities is providing children with many opportunities for learning, training, and experiencing during their summer break, while also contributing to the formation of positive skills and habits before the new school year. However, for these activities to be truly effective, parents need to choose reputable organizations and centers that ensure safety, and respect their children's interests and abilities instead of simply following trends. When families, schools, and society work together to create a healthy environment, summer will become a meaningful time, contributing to children's holistic development.
