Patient GTH (born in 1959, residing in Bang Lang commune, Tuyen Quang province) was admitted to the hospital with persistent abdominal pain; however, the clinical manifestations were atypical, making diagnosis difficult. Through examination and paraclinical tests, doctors discovered that the patient's appendix was "hidden" within the cecum – a very rare anatomical variation in surgical practice.
Recognizing this as a complex case, the General Surgery - Oncology team quickly consulted and decided on emergency surgery. Due to the unusual location of the appendix, the surgical process was challenging, requiring the surgeons to perform the procedure precisely and minimize the risk of damaging surrounding structures.
Thanks to the close collaboration of the team, the surgery was performed safely and the infection was completely treated. After the surgery, the patient was conscious, vital signs were stable, and the patient is continuing to be monitored and cared for in the ward.
Representatives from Bac Quang Regional General Hospital stated that appendicitis located within the cecum is a very rare situation, easily leading to misdiagnosis due to atypical symptoms. Therefore, thorough examination combined with paraclinical methods is crucial for early detection and timely treatment, avoiding dangerous complications for the patient.
