According to a decision signed by the Minister of Construction , Tam Thanh station has been put into operation on the North-South railway line. Located in Tay Ho commune, the station has three tracks for receiving and dispatching trains, including the main track No. 2, 508 meters long; and two station tracks No. 1 and No. 3, each 477 meters long.
Tam Thanh Station is a level 3 civil engineering project, serving to receive passenger and freight trains, facilitate train avoidance and overtaking, and provide transportation support services. The total design and construction area of the station is 375 m2. The station area also includes accommodation for transportation, route, and signaling staff, with a construction area of 285 m2.

The Vietnam Railways Corporation is tasked with receiving the handover of the project from Project Management Board 85, organizing the management and operation of Tam Thanh station in accordance with its designed function and operating plan, ensuring safety and efficiency.
Tam Thanh Station is part of Package 8 of the project to reinforce weak tunnels, combined with the construction of new stations and the renovation of the superstructure on the Vinh - Nha Trang section of the North-South railway line. Construction began in 2021 with a total investment of 276 billion VND, and was expected to be completed in 2023, but due to delays, it has only now been completed and put into operation.
Tam Thanh station is located about 3 km from An My station and is planned to replace the dilapidated An My station, which previously handled freight trains.
