Dr. Tran Huy Tuong (born 1944, Vinh Trung Ward, Thanh Khe District), former Head of the Personnel and Organization Department of Da Nang C Hospital, expressed that he witnessed the city's transformation before and after liberation. At that time, the city faced difficulties in every aspect. However, after 50 years, Da Nang has undergone a dramatic change, boasting modern infrastructure, a developed economy , and guaranteed security, especially with the addition of beautiful bridges along the Han River. "I hope that this exhibition will help young people understand the hardships of the past so that in the future they can contribute to preserving and building the city," Dr. Tuong stated.
Sharing the same sentiment as Mr. Tuong, Mr. Nguyen Hung (born in 1954, Thanh Binh ward, Hai Chau district) carefully read each line of text, looked at the images and artifacts with a look of pride. Through them, memories of those days came flooding back. He vividly remembers the early days after liberation, when Da Nang still had banana plantations, sugarcane fields, and thatched houses… but today it is gradually becoming more spacious, clean, and modern.
At the same time, the exhibition helped him reflect on the city's arduous journey to a new chapter, from its beginnings as the largest combined military base of the navy, army, and air force in Central Vietnam to the armed forces and people's offensive and uprising for liberation, and then the proud period of rising to become a centrally-governed city. He understood that such achievements were thanks to the correct decisions of the Party Committee and government, and the unity of the city's people, both in the past and present.
The thematic exhibition "Da Nang - Looking Back at 50 Years of Liberation" recreates the heroic atmosphere of those days 50 years ago through three parts. While the first part describes Da Nang as the largest combined military base of the navy, army, and air force in Central Vietnam before 1975, the second part depicts the forces of Military Region 5 and the people in the offensive and uprising to liberate Da Nang in 1975, with events such as the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Quang Da Special Zone Party Committee to discuss the liberation and takeover plans for Da Nang, soldiers crossing the river by boat, and the people transporting weapons to serve the liberation campaign.
The third section, "Da Nang's Pride and Aspiration," highlights achievements such as: the announcement ceremony of the Prime Minister's decision recognizing Da Nang as a Class I city (2003), the inauguration of the Han River Bridge (2000), and other projects marking the city's transformation. In addition, the exhibition receives and displays over 100 historical artifacts and documents from officials and citizens who directly participated in revolutionary activities during the resistance war against the US and international missions in Cambodia, as well as artifacts related to the revolutionary lives of comrades Vo Chi Cong and Chu Huy Man.
Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of the Da Nang Museum, shared that the thematic exhibition "Da Nang - Looking Back at 50 Years of Liberation" aims to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the City Party Committee, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Da Nang, and to look forward to the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). The exhibition runs until April 20th and is the first thematic exhibition of the Da Nang Museum after relocating to its new address. He expressed his hope that the exhibition will help the public, especially the younger generation, to awaken and promote the patriotic tradition, to appreciate, be grateful for, and honor the great sacrifices and contributions of their ancestors.
Furthermore, the exhibition contributes to raising awareness and fostering pride among the city's residents regarding its heroic revolutionary struggle traditions. Simultaneously, the exhibition helps viewers connect with and appreciate the dramatic transformation of the city before and after liberation. Moreover, the contributions of organizations and individuals donating artifacts and memorabilia not only help the museum preserve and promote the value of cultural heritage but also contribute to education, research, conservation, and the continued dissemination of these meaningful values to the community.
