Recently, the Hai Phong Department of Education and Training announced the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Specifically, the chosen subject will be a Foreign Language, including one of the following: English, French, Russian, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese. Candidates will take the exam in multiple-choice format within 60 minutes.

The Thai Binh Department of Education and Training also announced that English will be the third subject in the entrance exam for 10th grade in public schools for the 2025-2026 school year. Therefore, students in this province will take exams in three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and English.

Previously, the Department of Education and Training of Quang Nam province also selected English as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam.

To date, approximately 10 localities nationwide have announced or have proposed a third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam. Except for Vinh Phuc province, which chose a combined subject exam, the remaining localities have chosen a foreign language for the 10th grade entrance exam.

In early January, the Ministry of Education and Training issued regulations for admission to junior and senior high schools. According to these regulations, provinces can choose to hold entrance exams, select students based on academic records for grade 10, or combine these methods.

For the entrance exam, the test consists of Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject (or a combined test). The third subject is chosen by the Department of Education and Training from subjects graded with scores, including: Foreign Language 1, Civic Education, Natural Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, and Informatics.

It is worth noting that provinces and cities should not choose a third subject for more than three consecutive years.

The time allotted for the Literature exam is 120 minutes, Mathematics 90 minutes, the third subject 60 or 90 minutes, and the combined subject exam 90 or 120 minutes.

Provinces and cities may announce the third exam subject after the end of the first semester, but no later than March 31st of each year.
