
On the evening of September 7th, the Vietnam-Korea Festival opened at the East Sea Park in Da Nang . The festival was organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs in coordination with relevant departments and agencies and the Korean Consulate General in Da Nang, in response to the love for Vietnamese and Korean culture among the people and tourists.

In his opening remarks, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee Tran Chi Cuong, Head of the Festival Organizing Committee, said that following the success of the Vietnam-Korea Festival held in 2022, this year, Da Nang welcomes delegates to attend the Vietnam-Korea Festival taking place over three days from September 7-9.
According to Mr. Tran Chi Cuong, after more than 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, Vietnam and South Korea have achieved many important accomplishments in almost all fields. The Vietnam-South Korea relationship was upgraded to a "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" in 2022. South Korea currently ranks first in foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam. Both countries aim to increase trade turnover to US$100 billion by 2023. South Korea is a key source of tourists for Vietnam. Cultural and sports fields have truly become bridges connecting the people of the two countries.

The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee shared that Da Nang is actively involved in building friendly relations and official cooperation with localities in South Korea such as Changwon, Daegu, Hwaseong, Seoul, and Jeju. Cooperation between Da Nang and its Korean partners spans a diverse range of areas, from investment, trade, tourism , infrastructure development, smart cities, to training, personnel exchange, and short-term labor exchange. In particular, recognizing the role of culture and cultural exchange in bilateral cooperation, the city government always facilitates cultural exchange activities between Da Nang and its Korean partners.
With that in mind, the Vietnam-Korea Festival in Da Nang is envisioned to become an annual cultural and diplomatic event for the city. This year, the festival is held at East Sea Park, boasting a larger space, more extensive investment, and more impressive decorations than last year, along with a variety of accompanying activities, three nights of spectacular art programs, and the participation of 60 booths showcasing information, culture, specialties, cuisine, folk games, and more.
"The festival promises to offer participants a wonderful experiential journey, meeting the needs for exchange, entertainment, and expression for those who have a love for Vietnamese and Korean culture. At the same time, from the results of this festival, the cooperative relationship between Da Nang city and Korean partners will continue to expand, and the solidarity between the people of the two countries will become even stronger," Mr. Tran Chi Cuong emphasized.
At the opening ceremony, the Consul General of South Korea in Da Nang, Kang Boo Sung, expressed his delight that Da Nang city and the Consulate General were co-organizing the second Vietnam-Korea Festival and stated that: Over the past 30 years, relations between the two countries have achieved remarkable development in many areas including economics, trade, investment, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Trade between the two countries has increased 175 times since the establishment of diplomatic relations. South Korea has become the largest investor in Vietnam. Currently, there are 170,000 South Koreans living in Vietnam and 230,000 Vietnamese citizens living in South Korea. These citizens serve as a bridge between the two countries.
In 2019, Da Nang city received 1.7 million South Korean tourists. Despite a brief suspension due to COVID-19, the number of South Koreans visiting Da Nang in the first half of 2023 reached approximately 620,000, recovering to 73% of pre-pandemic levels.
Mr. Kang Boo Sung believes that the festival will be a valuable opportunity to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen goodwill, and develop relations between the two countries through positive exchanges of human resources, culture, and economy between the people of Korea and Vietnam. The Korean Consulate General will continue to implement activities to further enhance understanding and cooperation between Vietnam and Korea.
The opening ceremony featured many unique cultural and culinary exchange activities between the two countries, such as: a performance of traditional Vietnamese and Korean costumes, and performances of dance, singing, and modern dance… A large number of locals and tourists attended and experienced the exchange activities at the festival.
