The grand ceremony concluded with a thank-you speech from the Organizing Committee, read by Venerable Thich Quang Tu, Chief Secretary of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Association of Hue City, marking the successful completion of the Buddha's Birthday celebration in the ancient capital, Buddhist calendar 2570.
Earlier, on the afternoon of May 30th, within the framework of the Buddha's Birthday celebration, two important rituals bearing the strong cultural and spiritual imprint of this heritage land – the bathing of the Buddha and the procession of the Buddha – were solemnly held, attracting thousands of monks, nuns, Buddhists, and a large number of locals and tourists.
The Buddha bathing ceremony is held in front of the main hall of the Dieu De National Temple on the banks of the Dong Ba River. This ritual not only reenacts the Buddha's birth but also serves as a reminder for everyone to cleanse themselves of worries and strive for a virtuous and pure life.
Following the ritual of bathing the Buddha, a solemn procession escorted the statue of the newborn Buddha from Dieu De National Temple. The Buddha statue was placed on a flower-decorated float to begin its journey on foot to Tu Dam Ancestral Temple.
The procession moved through many central streets of the city, covering a distance of more than 3 km. The Buddha Procession is one of the typical rituals of the Buddha's birthday season in Hue, contributing to the preservation and promotion of the traditional cultural and religious values of the ancient capital.
The annual Vesak celebration in Hue takes place from the 1st to the 15th day of the 4th lunar month, featuring many unique cultural and spiritual activities such as lighting seven pink lotus flowers on the Perfume River, flower float parades, the bathing of the Buddha statue ceremony, the Buddha procession, and charitable programs aimed at the community.
These activities not only meet the religious needs of monks, nuns, and Buddhist followers but also contribute to promoting the image of Hue - a heritage city, a city of unique culture and spirituality of Vietnam.
