This project is one of the key national projects, initiated by the Prime Minister to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
The Western section of the North-South Expressway, from Gia Nghia (Dak Nong) to Chon Thanh ( Binh Phuoc ), is 124.13 km long (101.03 km through Binh Phuoc and approximately 23.1 km through Dak Nong). The project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, with a total investment of approximately VND 25,540 billion. This includes VND 10,536.5 billion from the central government budget; VND 1,233.5 billion from Binh Phuoc province; VND 1,000 billion from Dak Nong province; and VND 12,770 billion from the investor.
The Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh expressway project is divided into 5 component projects. Of these, Dak Nong province is in charge of 2 component projects: Component Project 2 and Component Project 4.
Regarding Component Project 2, which involves the construction of access roads and overpasses across Dak Nong province, the Dak Nong Provincial Department of Construction has coordinated with the investor to report to the Ministry of Construction and agreed to hold the groundbreaking ceremony before April 30th.
Regarding Component Project 4, the Steering Committee focused on discussing and finding solutions to overcome a number of related difficulties.

At the meeting, Mr. Ho Van Muoi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Nong province, announced that Dak Nong province has decided to start the Gia Nghia - Chon Thanh expressway project one day earlier than planned (April 29, 2025), meaning the province will officially begin construction on April 28, 2025.
Due to the limited time remaining, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dak Nong province, Ho Van Muoi, instructed the investor, local authorities, and relevant units to complete all procedures to be ready for the commencement of Component Project 2. Regarding Component Project 4, he directed that issues that are easily resolved should be addressed first. Issues that are too difficult should be addressed gradually later.
The project aims to create new development opportunities and momentum for both regions, while exploiting land potential, developing tourism, processing industries, and mineral extraction, in order to gradually restructure the economy of the Central Highlands region.
