In Vietnamese New Year celebrations, the first cup of green tea of the year is almost the opening drink for family gatherings, accompanied by New Year's greetings. Therefore, green tea served during Tet is always carefully selected by consumers, from its aroma and taste to its appearance. For tea-growing regions like Phu Tho , this is also an opportunity to showcase the values of the tea-making craft most clearly.

The Da Hen Tea Production and Processing Cooperative focuses on the quality of raw tea leaves for processing tea to serve during Tet (Lunar New Year).
Phu Tho province has suitable climatic and soil conditions for tea cultivation. The province currently has nearly 15,000 hectares of tea plantations, with over 70 processing enterprises, 12 traditional tea-making villages, and 15 tea production cooperatives. Thanks to these advantages, Phu Tho's green tea products are becoming increasingly diverse in variety, gradually meeting market demands, especially during the Lunar New Year.
Green tea for Tet (Lunar New Year) has higher requirements than at other times of the year. The raw materials must be carefully selected, with uniform, tender tea buds. The processing method is adjusted to ensure the tea retains its vibrant green color, delicate aroma, and rich yet not harsh flavor, suitable for enjoying tea at the beginning of spring. Many establishments proactively prepare their raw materials early and plan production to ensure quality and timely delivery.
In Hoang Van tea processing village (Minh Dai commune), the atmosphere in each tea workshop is bustling in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). Tea makers are focused on perfecting batches of high-quality green tea for the Tet market. On average, the village processes over 100 tons of green tea annually, of which about 1.5 tons are selected for high-quality green tea to serve during the Lunar New Year.
To enhance the value of its products, Hoang Van craft village has developed a cooperative model, strengthening linkages between production households and gradually shaping the local tea brand. Mr. Dang Duc Nam, Director of the Hoang Van Tea Production and Processing Cooperative, said: “We don't produce a large quantity of tea for Tet (Lunar New Year), but the requirements are very strict. Each stage is done carefully to ensure the tea dries evenly, retains its natural color, has a light aroma, and a rich, balanced flavor. Machinery assists in many production stages, but the experience and finesse of the craftspeople still play a decisive role. The cooperative focuses on high-quality green tea varieties, while also improving designs and diversifying packaging to meet consumer and gifting needs during Tet.”

Green tea products are being invested in terms of quality and packaging to meet the needs of gift-giving.
Along with quality, product appearance is receiving more attention. Packaging is being invested in with various types of vacuum-sealed bags, paper boxes, tin boxes, wooden boxes, etc., with elegant designs suitable for gifts. Besides traditional dried tea leaves, many companies are also developing additional product lines such as flower-scented tea, bud tea, etc., to meet the diverse needs of the Tet market.
Currently, the province has approximately 40 tea products certified under the OCOP program, including 2 products achieving 5-star OCOP status. Not only do these OCOP tea products meet quality requirements, but they also benefit from more systematic investment in production processes, packaging, and product storytelling. These are primarily high-quality green teas, with carefully selected raw materials and strict control over processing and packaging stages.
The Lunar New Year holiday is a time when OCOP products are in high demand, through supermarkets, OCOP product showrooms, and distribution channels of businesses and cooperatives.

UT purple bud tea products meet the needs of consumers and those wishing to give them as gifts during Tet (Lunar New Year).
UT Tea Investment and Development Co., Ltd. (Thanh Ba commune) specializes in producing tea for export, with an output of approximately 1,000 tons per year. The company focuses on developing its purple bud tea, which has achieved a 5-star national OCOP rating, making it a key product for the Tet (Lunar New Year) market. According to Ms. Le Thi Hong Phuong, Director of the company, in addition to quality, the business invests heavily in packaging, using vacuum-sealed bags, paper boxes, and paper pouches to ensure aesthetics, convenience, and suitability to consumer preferences.
From traditional villages to businesses, each batch of green tea perfected for Tet (Lunar New Year) is meticulously selected. This is the result of a long labor process, so that when Tet arrives, in every cup of tea at the beginning of Spring, the flavor of Phu Tho tea retains the unique characteristics of the ancestral tea region.
