Where human kindness blossoms

Amidst the hustle and bustle of life, as time relentlessly flows by, there remains a warm and tranquil "haven" called the Vinh Phuc Social Work Center in Phu Tho province. Here, more than 250 individuals – from lonely elderly people in their twilight years to bewildered orphaned children – have found a peaceful haven, where their emotional wounds are soothed by love and dedication.

Where human kindness blossoms

Overview of the Vinh Phuc Social Work Center

These are the lives of people who found "Family".

Stepping into the grounds of the Vinh Phuc Social Work Center, the first feeling that struck me wasn't the gloom of a relief unit, but rather a sense of tranquility and cleanliness. Rows of well-maintained buildings nestled under the shade of green trees, the cheerful laughter of children mingled with the gentle gazes of elderly people basking in the sun.

Over 250 people, each with their own fate and sorrow. There are elderly people who have wandered their whole lives, now alone and without support in their twilight years; there are children orphaned from birth; and there are those with physical or intellectual disabilities. Yet, stepping through this gate, they all become "family."

Where human kindness blossoms

At the Center, every vulnerable individual who comes here receives meticulous care, from meals to sleep.

Mr. Luong Cam Vinh, Director of the Center, shared with heartfelt enthusiasm: “We always work with the motto: The Center is our home, and the staff are our family. Every vulnerable person who comes here receives meticulous care, from meals and sleep to a personalized nutritional plan tailored to each group, such as the elderly, infants, or those undergoing medical treatment.”

Non-biological "mothers"

In the small nursery, Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Huyen is meticulously caring for a sleeping baby. As a mother, she understands better than anyone the longing for warmth felt by children who lack the care of their biological parents. Ms. Huyen emotionally shared: “I wholeheartedly care for them so they have good meals and restful sleep. I want to compensate for those deficiencies with my dedication and love, like a true mother.”

For the children, the female staff of the Vinh Phuc Social Protection Center always compensate for those shortcomings with their dedication and love, like a true mother.

That dedication extends beyond providing food and shelter. For young children of school age like Phan Cam Tu (a student at Thanh Van Secondary School), the Center is a launching pad for their future. Tu confided: “The staff here are like my parents. They patiently explain anything I don’t understand in class. Thanks to this home, I no longer feel alone.”

One of the highlights of the care provided here is the emphasis on physical and mental health. The center regularly collaborates with units such as the Vinh Phuc Rehabilitation Hospital to organize intensive treatment sessions.

Dr. Phan Thi May, from the Vinh Phuc Rehabilitation Hospital, who directly examines the beneficiaries, said: "Each treatment session, lasting 10-15 days, is a gift of health. We not only provide massage and physical therapy but also spend time interacting and chatting with the elderly and children to help them feel comfortable and relaxed."

The seamless coordination between healthcare and welfare services has helped many elderly people, who previously had difficulty walking, to now be able to walk on their own and rediscover the joy of movement. Ms. Nguyen Thi Vi, a resident who has been with this shelter for 15 years, shared radiantly: “Here, the staff are very friendly, they clean up every day, and provide decent meals just like at home. For frail elderly people like us, this is truly the greatest joy.”

Spread the message: "No one will be left behind."

Life at the Vinh Phuc Social Work Center is not confined within its walls. It's a continuous flow of compassion, supported by philanthropists and social organizations. The boxes of milk, cakes, and essential supplies sent each month not only hold material value but also affirm that society has never forgotten them.

The Vinh Phuc Social Work Center, in coordination with the Vinh Yen Regional Health Center, organized medical examinations for individuals under social welfare programs who are being cared for in centralized facilities.

Mr. Luong Cam Vinh, Director of the Center, reflected on the future: “In the coming time, we will further strengthen our social outreach efforts, connecting with more resources from philanthropists to improve the quality of life for everyone. Our biggest goal is for everyone to live in an environment of love and compassion.”

Leaving the center as the afternoon sun faded, the images of confident children playing and elderly people peacefully chatting on benches lingered in my mind. "A Shelter" is not just the name of an organization, but the most vivid testament to the Vietnamese spirit of mutual support and compassion. There, seemingly lost souls have found a haven. And there, the flame of hope has been kindled by hearts that know how to share.
