As a remote commune in Van Ban district, Dan Thang currently has 400 households, of which the Dao ethnic minority accounts for over 80%. The terrain is heavily fragmented, the population is scattered, the level of education is uneven, and the poverty rate is high, making it difficult to mobilize resources from the people for rural development.

Despite the difficulties, with a proactive spirit, Dan Thang commune has always strived and achieved 7 out of 19 criteria for building new rural areas, including: Planning; Irrigation and disaster prevention; Rural electricity; Rural commercial infrastructure; Health ; Culture; Security and national defense.
Mr. Ban Phuc Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dan Thang commune, said: To achieve these results, along with investment and support from the State, the Party committee and the commune government focused on disseminating information to help people understand and actively participate in implementing projects and tasks. In 2023, people contributed more than 2,000 days of labor, donated more than 16,000 m2 of land, and contributed 55 million VND to public works.

To effectively promote the new rural development program, the commune leaders hold quarterly meetings with Party branch secretaries and village heads to inform them of the achievements and commend villages and households that have actively participated in the program. This creates motivation and a competitive spirit among households and villages in the new rural development movement.
To help people increase their income, the commune government has mobilized and encouraged people to change the structure of crops and livestock towards commercial production. Dan Thang commune currently has 345 hectares of rice paddies and 310 hectares of corn fields. People have boldly introduced new, high-yield varieties for cultivation, replacing local varieties. The commune has also expanded the area for growing bamboo shoots to 250 hectares (generating more than 60 million VND/hectare/year), developed a herd of large livestock to more than 5,400 animals, 5 hectares for aquaculture, and developed 35 hectares of production forest… As a result, the poverty rate in the commune decreased from 40% (in 2022) to 28% (in 2023). The average per capita income in 2023 reached 42 million VND, an increase of 3 million VND/person compared to 2022.

In 2024, Dan Thang commune strives to achieve two more criteria: information and communication, and residential housing; aiming to meet the new rural standard by 2025. To achieve this goal, the commune government continues to promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of participating in building new rural areas; focusing on implementing the economic and production organization criteria. In addition, the commune requests the province and district to invest in completing rural roads to promote trade and development...
