Dang Van Lam is injured again.

Having just recovered and returned to the starting lineup, goalkeeper Dang Van Lam suffered an injury when Binh Dinh lost 0-2 to hosts SLNA in round 9 of the V-League 2023-2024 on the evening of February 18th.

In the 33rd minute, Le Ngoc Bao passed the ball back to Dang Van Lam, but the shot was weak. The goalkeeper, born in 1993, had to rush out of the penalty area and collided with Phan Xuan Dai, resulting in an injury to his right leg. Van Lam received treatment from the Binh Dinh medical team for three minutes before leaving the field and being replaced by Nguyen Manh Cuong.

Van Lam recently returned from an injury sustained in Binh Dinh's 1-0 victory over Hai Phong in Round 8 on December 27, 2023. At that time, Van Lam suffered pain in his right leg while running for the ball and had to leave the field in the 61st minute, limping.

On December 31, 2023, Van Lam joined the Vietnamese national team for a medical check-up and was diagnosed with a right calf muscle strain and Achilles tendonitis. He had to rest completely for three weeks, thus missing the 2023 Asian Cup.

Van Lam will be taken to the hospital for a detailed examination of his injury this morning, February 19th. The absence of their number one goalkeeper will be a major blow for Binh Dinh, as they have an important match against league leaders Nam Dinh on February 24th in Round 10.

Since the start of the 2023-2024 V-League season, Van Lam has started all nine matches for Binh Dinh and kept three clean sheets. He joined Binh Dinh in the middle of the 2022 season after leaving J-League 1 club Cerezo Osaka, and immediately became the number one goalkeeper for the Quy Nhon-based team. Prior to that, Van Lam made his name at Hai Phong FC from 2015. After that, he moved to Muangthong United in Thai League 1 for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Without Van Lam, Binh Dinh couldn't hold their ground against SLNA in the match at Vinh Stadium on the evening of February 18th. In the third minute of added time in the first half, SLNA took a corner kick from the right wing, and Phan Ba Quyen headed the ball into the ground and hit the far post to open the scoring. In the 57th minute, Phan Xuan Dai sprinted to receive a through ball and placed a low shot into the far corner to double the lead. In this situation, goalkeeper Manh Cuong made a mistake by hesitating to come out.

In contrast to the home team's sharpness, Binh Dinh couldn't find a way to break through goalkeeper Van Viet's defense. In the ninth minute, Leonardo Melo curled a beautiful shot from the left corner, but the ball hit the junction of the crossbar and the post. In the 37th minute, Alan Sebastiao turned and unleashed a powerful volley inside the penalty area, but Van Viet made a spectacular save. After conceding two goals in the second half, Binh Dinh had chances at the end of the match, but both Alan Sebastiao and Leonardo Melo missed.

Losing 0-2, Binh Dinh's three-match winning streak was broken, and they dropped to fourth place in the V-League with 16 points, six points behind leaders Nam Dinh.
