Unlocking the tourism potential of Pa Phach

Moc Chau plateau – where each season takes on its own unique charm. But in Pa Phach, Moc Son ward, there's an added highlight: Vang A Son, a young Mong ethnic man, with his innovative homestay model combined with a cloud-watching spot, contributing to "awakening" the tourism potential of his homeland.

Pa Phach has become an ideal destination for cloud watching and sunrise viewing, thanks to the efforts of a young Hmong man named Vang A Son who boldly borrowed over 2 billion VND from the bank to invest in building the Pa Phach homestay, which also serves as a cloud-watching spot. This has realized his entrepreneurial dream and opened up a new direction for tourism development in the area.

While giving us a tour of the homestay, A Son shared: "I've traveled to many places and visited many community tourism models, and I've always been concerned that our village has beautiful scenery and unique culture, but it hasn't attracted tourists to stay for long periods. Therefore, I'm determined to build a homestay to meet the needs of tourists and at the same time create a foundation for the villagers to learn and develop tourism."

To ensure that the journey to explore Pa Phach goes beyond simply cloud hunting and offers a complete experience, in 2023, A Son and his wife planted over 1,000 rhododendron trees on the cloud-hunting hillside, interspersed with chrysanthemums and rapeseed flowers, creating vibrant flower carpets. Tourists can also participate in traditional Mong ethnic activities such as pounding sticky rice cakes, beeswax painting, indigo dyeing, cooking, cultural exchanges, and picking plums and peaches according to the season. In addition, A Son focuses on connecting the consumption of agricultural products and brocade products produced by local people, such as plums, tomatoes, free-range chickens, and organic vegetables. Through this, the community tourism model not only provides experiences for tourists but also contributes to creating livelihoods and increasing income for the local people.

Ms. Nguyen Nhat Khanh, a tourist from Hanoi , shared: "I was impressed by the picturesque scenery and the feeling of being immersed in nature. In particular, I greatly admire the young Hmong man who dared to change his way of thinking and doing things, bringing a sense of closeness and friendliness to tourists."

Positive feedback from tourists is proof of A Son's correct direction. During peak seasons with beautiful sea of clouds, the Pa Phach cloud-watching spot welcomes approximately 700 visitors per month, with an entrance fee of 20,000 VND per person. The number of guests staying at the homestay reaches 30-50 per month, generating revenue of over 10 million VND. Despite the unstable number of visitors, A Son perseveres in developing the year-round scenic landscape and promoting its image on social media.

Mr. Vang A Lu, Party Secretary and Head of the Pa Phach residential group, said: Vang A Son is a model young man with innovative thinking, daring to think and act. Despite facing many difficulties, he persevered in developing tourism. Thanks to him, Pa Phach is becoming increasingly well-known, and the people in the village have also raised their awareness of tourism. From A Son's model, two more households have now joined the service business, opening up a new direction and contributing to improving the lives of the people.

Although there are still many challenges ahead in improving service quality, with a spirit of daring to think and act, Vang A Son is creating a positive ripple effect, making Pa Phach an attractive "cloud-hunting" spot for tourists visiting Moc Chau National Tourist Area.
