Hon Son Island boasts many beautiful beaches such as Bai Bang, Bai Nha, Bai Gieng, Bai Bac… Among them, Bai Bang is a favorite with tourists for its fine white sand, clear blue water, and peaceful scenery. It is also one of the ideal spots to watch the sunrise and sunset on the island. In the early morning, when the first rays of sunlight gradually appear on the sea, the scenery here becomes poetic, bringing a sense of relaxation to visitors.
Besides its natural landscapes, Hon Son Island also boasts many ancient spiritual destinations such as the Ba Co Chu Temple, the Nam Hai Dai Tuong Quan Mausoleum, the Lai Son communal house, and the Hai Son Pagoda, enriching visitors' exploration journeys. While on Hon Son, visitors shouldn't miss the opportunity to enjoy delicious fresh seafood dishes like garlic-fried mantis shrimp, grilled sea urchin, steamed crab with ginger and lemongrass, herring salad, sour fish soup, oyster porridge, and grilled barracuda. Experiential activities such as night squid fishing, fishing, driving around the island, or watching the sunset also offer many memorable experiences.
According to statistics, in the first six months of 2026, the Kien Hai Special Economic Zone welcomed nearly 365,000 visitors. Lai Son (Hon Son) alone received over 156,600 visitors, including more than 2,200 international tourists. These figures demonstrate the growing appeal of Hon Son on the regional map of coastal and island tourism. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang, residing in My Thoi ward, chose Hon Son for her family's 3-day, 2-night vacation. Ms. Trang said: “Although we have been here many times, my family still enjoys returning to this beautiful island. Besides swimming, we also rented boats to fish for squid and fish, and enjoyed fresh seafood. Each visit brings very memorable experiences.”
Summer is also the time when many accommodations operate at full capacity. Hotels and homestays located near the beach or with private beaches are often fully booked very early, especially on weekends. Mr. Thanh Nhan, owner of Phuong Nam guesthouse, said: “On weekends during the summer , the guesthouse is fully booked. Many guests have already booked rooms until August since the beginning of summer. Despite the high number of guests, we haven't increased prices; instead, we focus on improving the quality of service to ensure tourists have a perfect vacation.”
According to Mr. Le Chi San, co-founder of Hon Son Xanh Limited Company, in recent years, during holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and peak summer seasons, Hon Son Island often experiences overcrowding due to a sharp increase in visitors. Therefore, tourists should book rooms about a month in advance and also book round-trip ferry tickets to have a more flexible schedule. “Tourists come to Hon Son mainly to experience the coastal road around the island, swim, squid fishing, and enjoy seafood. Although the number of tour bookings is quite high, we still strive to provide the best possible experience,” Mr. San shared.
Despite its existing advantages, Hon Son still has some issues that need to be addressed soon. Mr. Tran Huynh Tuan Anh, a resident of Binh Thuy ward, Can Tho city, commented: “Hon Son has beautiful beaches, fresh seafood, friendly people, and relatively affordable costs. What I most hope for is that the problem of ticket scalpers and ticket hoarders is completely resolved. Currently, many tourists find it difficult to buy tickets at the listed price and are forced to buy through intermediaries at higher prices.”
Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Hai Special Economic Zone, Chau Hung Ky, said that during the peak summer season, the number of tourists visiting Hon Son and Nam Du increases sharply. To ensure safe and civilized tourism activities, the locality focuses on promoting civilized conduct in tourism; mobilizing people and businesses to build the image of Kien Hai as a destination that is "safe, friendly, and responsible".
The special economic zone is intensifying inspections of accommodation establishments, passenger transport vehicles, and tourist ships and boats; requiring public price listing, ensuring food safety and environmental hygiene; launching a campaign to reduce plastic waste; and establishing a rapid response team to promptly receive and handle feedback from tourists.
