Efforts of young people
After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering in 2010, Ha Quoc Trung (born in 1991, Loc Tay village, Que Loc commune) chose Ho Chi Minh City to start his career and found his calling in the agarwood trade.
Guided by his seniors, in 2016, Trung confidently started his own business after getting married. However, when the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, goods couldn't be exported, and their accumulated capital ran out. Unable to hold out any longer, Trung and his wife decided to return to their hometown at the end of 2020.
Once again choosing to stick with the agarwood trade in his hometown, Trung was more cautious this time, exploring and researching the market as he went along. Starting from a small business, in early 2024, he and his wife boldly invested in opening the Thien Vu agarwood production factory.
The products are exported to the Chinese and Middle Eastern markets, providing regular employment for 9 workers with an average income of 6 million VND/person/month, and many others receive work for subcontracting. Ha Quoc Trung said he will continue to expand the production workshop if his loan application from the agricultural promotion fund is approved.
"Comrade Ha Thi Minh Chau is very responsible in her work, and as a Party member, she always has good ideas and methods that she applies to the work of the Party branch, village, and hamlet; at the same time, she is very good at mobilizing the people and always excellently completes the assigned tasks."

Trung shared that, having become accustomed to the working environment in Ho Chi Minh City, he felt quite disoriented when he returned to his hometown to start a business. At that time, Ms. Ha Thi Minh Chau, the Party Secretary and Head of the Front Committee of Loc Tay village, always encouraged and supported him in handling the necessary paperwork and procedures for obtaining loans.
“The loan application from the agricultural extension program to expand the workshop and produce new products was also facilitated by Ms. Chau's assistance. With such care and help, a young man like me feels less burdened and has more motivation to develop economically ,” he confided.
Locally, Ms. Ha Thi Minh Chau also serves as the head of a loan group, readily providing guidance and maximum support regarding procedures for people who need loans for production, business, or overseas employment.
She shared: “In 2015, having been elected village head by the people's trust, I, along with the village officials, overcame difficulties to propagate and mobilize the people to develop the economy and work together to build a model new rural village with specific directions.”
Responding to the movement for economic development among the people, Loc Tay village currently has 7.97% of households classified as poor and eligible for social welfare, with no poor households of working age. The village is in the process of preparing documents to request recognition as a model cultural village.
Learn from Uncle Ho's approachable style.
Sharing her experience in studying and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, Ha Thi Minh Chau, Secretary of the Loc Tay village Party branch, said: "I always stay close to the people, listen to them, and understand their thoughts and aspirations, so I have earned their trust; as a result, the villagers support the implementation of common tasks."
Following President Ho Chi Minh's style of closeness to the people, the mark of young female Party branch secretary Ha Thi Minh Chau's activities is closely linked to each task, starting with collective discussions, setting directions, and choosing new paths for the development of the locality.
And when putting it into practice, Minh Chau, along with Party members and village officials, took the lead in implementing it first, setting an example to mobilize the people to participate.
Compared to the time when Ha Thi Minh Chau took over as village head in 2015, the appearance of Loc Tay village has changed noticeably.
Specifically in the construction of new rural areas, more than 400 families contributed labor and donated nearly 3 hectares of land to build rural roads, field roads, renovate fences and gates, build model gardens, plant flowers and trees, etc. This contributed to bringing Loc Tay village to the finish line of a model new rural village and building an advanced new rural commune.
During the campaign to develop the local economy, noticing that some areas of land had been left fallow for many years, Minh Chau and the village officials provided guidance and encouraged people to change the crop structure.
Of the 5 hectares planned for conversion to lotus seed cultivation, 2 hectares were planted in the first year, demonstrating that the soil is suitable for lotus plants. This opens up a new direction in economic development and has attracted more households to register for lotus cultivation combined with tourism .
For the past two years, another 10 hectares of abandoned farmland have been restored by the people to grow cassava intercropped with peanuts. The people proactively switched to this model, no longer waiting for village officials to persuade them, because they saw the effectiveness of this economic model.
According to Ms. Ha Thi Minh Chau, to achieve this result, village officials had to cooperate with the commune to promote and support the first crop so that people could confidently cultivate their land.
Constantly thinking of new directions for local development is the hallmark of Ha Thi Minh Chau and the team of officials in Loc Tay village. Most recently, they have focused on guiding, understanding the mindset, and supporting young people in the village to obtain loans when they need to go to work abroad in South Korea and Japan to develop their family's economy.
“As the Party branch secretary, I studied and thoroughly understood the Party's policies to convey them to cadres, Party members, and the people when I took on the position of Head of the Village Front Committee. Besides being a leading example, the leader needs to provide directions for the collective to discuss and agree upon. Without direction, the village will not develop positively. For example, in economic development, if there is no direction for the villagers to develop a lotus cultivation model, they might only see it and start doing it a few years later,” Ms. Minh Chau shared.
