Among the group of visitors touring the historical site of House No. 5 Chau Van Liem, Tran Ha My, a student in Class 10/2 at Le Quy Don High School, attentively listened to the explanations and took notes on useful information for future reference. Tran Ha My shared: “Every time I come here, I feel very proud and moved. House No. 5 Chau Van Liem is where Uncle Ho lived before embarking on his 30-year journey to find a way to save the country, and upon his return, he changed the destiny of the nation.”
Previously, house number 5 Chau Van Liem was located at 1-2-3 Quai Testard, Cho Lon. In November 1988, house number 5 Chau Van Liem was recognized as a national historical monument with the full name "The place where Comrade Nguyen Tat Thanh lived before leaving to find a way to save the country".
Amidst the vibrant development of a megacity, the historical site of No. 5 Chau Van Liem Street stands as a significant landmark. It not only preserves invaluable artifacts but also vividly recreates the will and aspirations of young Nguyen Tat Thanh before he left Nha Rong Wharf to embark on his long journey to find a way to save the country.

According to historical records, upon arriving in Saigon, teacher Nguyen Tat Thanh was accommodated at the house of Mr. Le Van Dat, a relative on his mother's side of Mr. Truong Gia Mo, a renowned scholar in Southern Vietnam and a colleague of Mr. Nguyen Sinh Sac (the father of President Ho Chi Minh). It was Mr. Truong Gia Mo and some friends who influenced the French Consul to agree to grant Nguyen Tat Thanh a travel permit to enter Saigon under the new name Van Ba. After two days at Mr. Le Van Dat's house, Nguyen Tat Thanh was moved to Lien Thanh Trading Post.
During his time in Saigon, he taught, worked at a mechanics school, and even sold newspapers in the port area to learn about the lives of workers and laborers, as well as the ships entering and leaving Saigon port. This was a crucial period for the patriotic young man Nguyen Tat Thanh to prepare for his journey to find a way to save the country.
For 115 years, house number 5 Chau Van Liem Street has remained simple and almost entirely intact, preserving its traditional architecture amidst the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. The entire interior space of the historical site is used to display documents and images about our beloved President Ho Chi Minh. Everything is arranged and displayed scientifically so that visitors can have a comprehensive view of his life, career, and especially his great journey in seeking a path to national salvation.
Along with the historical site of house number 5 Chau Van Liem, Nha Rong Wharf (Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City Branch) is a special landmark marking the beginning of President Ho Chi Minh's 30-year journey. This place not only boasts lush greenery and a beautiful location, but also preserves many images and documents about his life and revolutionary career.
To commemorate the event of Nguyen Tat Thanh's departure to seek a path to national salvation, after the liberation of South Vietnam and the reunification of the country, Nha Rong Wharf was renovated into a memorial site dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh. On September 2, 1979, it opened its doors to visitors, showcasing an exhibition about President Ho Chi Minh's journey to national salvation.
In October 1995, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to rename it "Ho Chi Minh Museum - Ho Chi Minh City Branch".
