After World War II, in a complex international context, the US imperialists gradually intervened deeply in Vietnam, plotting to permanently divide the country and suppress the revolutionary movement. Faced with this situation, the Vietnamese people steadfastly pursued the goal of independence and national reunification, guided by the truth that "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom." Under the wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh, our people waged a long, arduous, but incredibly heroic resistance war. After the Geneva Accords of 1954, the country was temporarily divided, but the will to reunify the nation never faded in the hearts of every Vietnamese person. The glorious struggle of the resistance war against the US for national salvation went through many difficult but heroic stages. From the Đồng Khởi movement (1959–1960) that transformed the revolutionary landscape in South Vietnam, to the defeat of the US strategies of "Special War," "Local War," and "Vietnamization of the War," the peak of the resistance was the Tet Offensive and Uprising of 1968, creating a crucial turning point that forced the US to de-escalate the war and accept negotiations. The Paris Agreement of 1973 was signed, forcing the US to withdraw its troops, creating a strategic opportunity for the Vietnamese revolution to achieve final victory. In the spring of 1975, with swift and bold momentum, our army and people launched a general offensive throughout South Vietnam. The culmination was the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, ending on April 30, 1975, with the liberation of Saigon, marking the complete victory of the resistance war against the US and for national salvation.
Historical Significance and Valuable Lessons : The victory of the Great Spring Offensive of 1975 is the greatest achievement in Vietnam's national liberation struggle in the 20th century. This event not only ended over 30 years of war, completely liberated the South, and unified the country, but also opened a new era – an era of independence, unity, and progress towards socialism. This victory stemmed from many factors, most notably the correct leadership of the Party; the patriotism and indomitable will of the people; the strength of national unity; the solid rear base in the North; and the valuable support of international friends. From the practical experience of the revolutionary struggle, many valuable lessons have been learned, such as: steadfastly pursuing the goal of national independence linked with socialism; promoting the strength of national unity; combining national strength with the strength of the times; and building a clean and strong Party. 51 Years of National Construction and Development : After reunification, our country faced countless difficulties and the devastating consequences of war. However, with self-reliance, self-strength, and a spirit of innovation, Vietnam has achieved many great and historically significant accomplishments. The economy has grown steadily and expanded in scale; the material and spiritual lives of the people have improved significantly. Significant progress has been made in the fields of culture, society, education, and healthcare; the poverty rate has decreased sharply; and the social security system is ensured. National defense and security have been firmly consolidated; independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity have been maintained. Foreign affairs and international integration have been promoted, contributing to enhancing Vietnam's position and prestige in the international arena. The 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country is an opportunity for every cadre, Party member, and citizen to reflect on the glorious traditions, foster national pride, and continue to promote the spirit of unity, self-reliance, and self-strength in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. In the current period, steadfastly pursuing the goals of national independence and socialism; accelerating innovation and rapid and sustainable economic development; building a clean and strong Party and political system; consolidating national defense and security; and proactively integrating into the international community… are key tasks. Drawing on the heroic spirit of the Great Victory of Spring 1975, the entire Party, people, and army are determined to build a Vietnam that is increasingly prosperous, happy, and sustainably developed, steadily advancing into a new era – an era of national progress.
