The Hanoi People's Committee has just issued a decision approving the investment plan for a project to manufacture three spare Bailey bridge trusses to handle bridge failures, manage traffic, and alleviate traffic congestion in the city.
Accordingly, the project involves constructing Benley truss bridges as a backup, which can be installed on the To Lich, Kim Nguu, and Lu rivers to connect traffic between the two sides of the rivers and to promptly address bridge damage caused by natural disasters or weak bridges during operation. This aims to minimize traffic congestion, ensure safety, and facilitate convenient connections in the event of bridge failures or when traffic management needs arise in the city.
The Hanoi People's Committee has assigned the Department of Construction as the investor for three Bailey bridge projects across the To Lich River, with an estimated cost of nearly 15 billion VND, to be implemented in 2025-2026.

Bailey bridges are a type of movable steel bridge that has been widely used in various fields. They are load-bearing, lightweight, convenient, easy to assemble and disassemble, and inexpensive. Currently, several Bailey bridges have been installed along the Kim Ngưu River, connecting Kim Ngưu Street and Mai Động Street.
Previously, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan issued directives at a meeting regarding the design plan for the renovation of the To Lich River. Hanoi basically agreed with the research and proposal of Sun Group Joint Stock Company. The design plan fundamentally meets the criteria and orientations of the city and the programs and plans that have been and are being implemented, with the goal of transforming the To Lich River into a green space, a scenic and ecological highlight serving the community.
To ensure consistency with other programs, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture and the Institute of Construction Planning to coordinate with Sun Group to finalize the design plan, ensuring it aligns with the programs and plans already implemented.
At the same time, Hanoi requested the consulting unit to further clarify the technological solutions for treating the riverbed to clean it; to further study the content of transforming the To Lich River into a water reservoir during floods for the To Lich River basin in the Capital's Drainage Plan; and to assess the interaction of the technical infrastructure system along the route (Bailey steel truss bridges in the transportation technical infrastructure network) with the design option...
