The education sector in Da Nang City focuses on incorporating traditional art forms into school curricula to promote traditional values and instill patriotism and a spirit of national defense in students.

The highlight of the program was the integration of content from Lesson 5 (Literature 10) and Lesson 3 (Literature 8) through an excerpt from the play "Tran Quoc Toan Returns to His Mother and Goes to War". The image of the 15-year-old hero with the spirit of "Defeating the powerful enemy, repaying the Emperor's favor" was recreated on the school stage, leaving a strong impression on the students.

Beyond simply enjoying the performance, students also had the opportunity to interact and answer questions about the historical figure Tran Quoc Toan, the national spirit of unity in fighting foreign invaders, and the basic characteristics of Tuong (Vietnamese classical opera). Through this, they gradually recognized the value of traditional culture, forming an awareness of respecting and the responsibility to preserve national identity.

Nearly 1,000 students and teachers watched excerpts from traditional Vietnamese opera performed by professional artists from the Nguyen Hien Dinh Traditional Opera Theatre.

After the performance, many students expressed their enthusiasm for this traditional theatrical art form. Dang Ngoc Diem Quynh, a student in class 12/5, said: “Before, I thought traditional opera was difficult to watch, but after learning about it and participating directly, I found it very captivating. The heroic dialogues and patriotic spirit in the performance made us feel the history of our nation more clearly.”

According to Ms. Tran Thi Kim Van, Principal of Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School, extracurricular activities incorporating traditional Vietnamese opera into schools not only contribute to the innovation of Vietnamese language teaching methods but also create a comprehensive educational environment for students in terms of ethics, lifestyle, aesthetics, and life ideals.

Speaking to a reporter from SGGP about this issue, Ms. Le Thi Bich Thuan, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City, said: “Literature is a subject with aesthetic and humanistic values; it educates students about the beautiful values of national culture, literature, and language; and develops healthy emotions and humanistic feelings in students. Integrating education on preserving and promoting the traditional culture of the nation through theatrical performances is an effective solution that both ensures innovation in teaching methods and meets the educational goals of the 2018 General Education Program.”

Experience at Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School shows that when traditional art is introduced into schools through creative and age-appropriate methods, cultural heritage is not only preserved but also continued. This is also a way to sow sustainable "cultural seeds," contributing to nurturing the soul and cultural character of the younger generation in the current process of integration.

On December 22nd, at Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School in Da Nang City, the school and the Nguyen Hien Dinh Traditional Opera Theatre jointly organized a performance of an excerpt from the traditional opera "Tran Quoc Toan Returns to His Mother and Goes to War". The performance attracted nearly 1,000 teachers and students from Nguyen Khuyen Secondary and High School.

In the context of many traditional art forms facing the risk of extinction, integrating national cultural heritage into schools is seen as a fundamental and sustainable approach.
