She said that when training doctors for residency programs (a specialized training system in the medical field considered to be training talent for medicine), the goal should be to ensure that doctors receive a sufficient salary to live on from the residency stage, thus giving them time to hone their skills.

Few professions require as long a period of study as medicine. After six years of undergraduate studies, doctors who want to work independently must complete residency programs or specialist training (levels 1 and 2), then pursue master's and doctoral degrees, meaning they need at least 9-10 years of study before they can work independently.

Not to mention that once they start working, they have to participate in "continuing education" courses to continue practicing their profession.

The medical profession works for the health of human beings. From birth to death, whether sick or healthy, every person needs the care of doctors and medical professionals. Therefore, it is essential for doctors and medical staff to be both skilled in medical theory and adept at understanding and caring for patients.

Watching doctors and nurses at work, everyone thinks they must be very healthy because of the high intensity of their work.

In the emergency departments of many hospitals, doctors and nurses have to work a grueling 24/7 shift every five days, surrounded by sick and infirm people. They cannot afford to be negligent for even a moment because it's a matter of life and death.

To honor the medical profession and doctors, nearly 40 years ago the Council of Ministers decided to designate February 27th as Vietnam Doctors' Day. On this day in 1955, President Ho Chi Minh sent a letter to the National Conference of Medical Cadres , instructing them that "a good doctor must be like a loving mother."

These days, many flowers and congratulatory messages have been sent to doctors and nurses, those who have cared for and saved people's lives.

But for those working in the medical profession, they still need support, or rather, proper investment and compensation, especially policies regarding salaries and allowances, and policies related to education and training.

For many years, there have been concerns that other professions can graduate from university in four years, while medicine takes six years and the starting salaries upon graduation are the same, which is an inconsistency.

Since the end of 2023, many doctors and medical professionals have also expressed concerns about the ongoing and unresolved issue of the professional incentive allowance system...

Resolution 46 of 2005 by the Politburo stated: "The medical profession is a special profession, requiring special selection, training, employment, and remuneration."

To date, getting into medical school remains the most difficult, requiring the most arduous studies and high-intensity work, yet there are still concerns about the compensation for doctors and medical staff. Why is the on-call allowance only enough to buy two bowls of pho? Why is the allowance for heart surgery, which is extremely difficult, only a few hundred thousand dong? These questions cannot be allowed to linger any longer...
