"The Imperial Capital of Turmoil" tours Northern Vietnam

This work marks a turning point for the Vam Co Cai Luong Art Troupe in its journey to revive Vietnamese historical memories through the melodies of the South.

People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh, Head of the Vam Co Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) Art Troupe, said that at the invitation of the Vietnam Traditional Theatre, the troupe will perform a series of shows to celebrate the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam from February 27 to March 9 in Hanoi and neighboring provinces. "This tour has profound significance, a meeting between the melodies of the South and the audience in the North, who always cherish traditional theatre," People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh remarked.

"The Imperial Capital in Turmoil" is the first play staged after the Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) troupe led by People's Artist Ho Ngoc Trinh officially adopted the name Vam Co. This performance not only marks a change in brand identity but also embodies a long-held dream of a renewed Vietnamese historical Cai Luong genre, in a spirit of respect for history.

The play "The Turbulent Capital" was written by Dr. and People's Artist Trieu Trung Kien, adapted into Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) by playwright Hoang Song Viet, and directed by People's Artist Giang Manh Ha. The work bears the strong aesthetic imprint of the South, creating a unique character compared to the version by the Vietnam Cai Luong Theatre that won a silver medal at the 2009 National Professional Cai Luong Theatre Festival.

According to the schedule, the Vam Co Cai Luong (Vietnamese traditional opera) Troupe will perform at venues in Hanoi, Ninh Binh , and a ticketed show at the Vietnam Circus Federation on March 9th. In addition, the troupe is awaiting feedback to add two more performances. "The Imperial City of Turbulent Waves" comes to Northern audiences as a cultural bridge, where Southern Cai Luong gently touches the nation's historical memories through traditional songs, melodies, and the enduring faith of the artists.
